Staff were pleasant and welcoming. The public areas had interesting historical details and it was good to have boards displaying the history of the building. However, the design of our room (no 410) was not well thought out. Task lighting was lacking. There was no desk lamp and no mirror or adequate lighting at desk/dressing table for applying make up. The toilet seat was cheap and flimsy. The shower screen was too small and water flooded the floor. Access to the shower also involved a high step with no grab rail which could cause safety issues for less mobile people. Although some attempt had been made to insulate the ceiling we could still hear people walking around in the rooms above At breakfast, getting a hot drink involved using a choice of machines neither of which delivered a satisfactory beverage. One seemed to be malfunctioning with a warning sign flashing indicating that it needed cleaning although nobody attended to it. I left a trail of cups containing my unsuccessful attempts at making a suitable coffee. The cheese and charcuterie were good as was the freshly-squeezed orange juice,

The "grand hotel" was supposed to be a high level of quality as we are used from the Mercure Group. Two mails before our arrival have already lowered our expectations. The welness area is not available due to an incident; The restaurant will be closed during the weekend. Finally the hotel itself was well located near the station, the building had some high standard architectural elements, but the hotel really needs to be upgraded to meet today's expectations of a hotel guest.

For medical reasons I had booked a room with 2 separate beds. This booking was confirmed but at arrival, there where only rooms with double beds. Moreover, the restaurant was closed on the evening we checked in.

We liked the room on the 5th floor : it was very calm. The room was a little small and needs a little refreshment, also the whole hotel : bad smells in the elevator and hallway on the street level, dust under the chair in front of the elevator on the 5th floor : not cleaned since weeks ?

My stay at this hotel was memorable in so far as my car's review mirrors were vandalized whilst I parked right in front of the establishment! Check-in was conducted by a friendly girl from the accounting/marketing department (apparently her colleague from reception was ill) who announced a wrong price to me and told me that despite my having asked to be placed far away from an elevator or the stairs, I had been given a room right next to the stairs and in front of an elevator. She mentioned that I would have to wait until her colleague came the next day to see if I could change rooms. When I asked about the fitness/sauna facilities, I was told that there had been a fire and that they were non-accessible (there is a gym next door to the hotel--perhaps the least that the hotel could do for guests is to provide passes to the gym?). Having arrived late in the evening, I was told that I had plenty of time to order food (hot as well as cold items). When I came down, the waiter told me that the kitchen was closing and that I could only order cold food. Restating what had been told to me 10 minutes before, he then kindly enabled me to order a hot soup which was delicious. Although I asked for the bill, he stated that this wasn't necessary and that the charge would come up on my room account. This was unusual, but I thought nothing of it as I was tired and happy to have arrived...until the next day when I saw that a beverage which I thought was included in my "free welcome drink" had been charged. Reception staff dealt with this matter in an elegant manner (apparently I wasn't the first to have this happen), but it is tiring to face such surprises when one is travelling, especially at a MERCURE hotel. Overall, hotel staff did their best to make my stay enjoyable. Members of the cleaning staff in particular were very friendly and attentive. The quality of food was quite good and the breakfast room was pleasant. I was also happy to use NUXE miel products in the bathroom. The hotel's location was also very convenient for visiting the Swimming Pool Museum and walking around Roubaix. Nevertheless, the state of this hotel's interiors does not represent the usual standard of a MERCURE hotel. In particular, the elevators seem worn out and the carpets within them look very unclean. It is strange that something that would take little effort and resources should be overlooked by management. There was virtually no insulation between the 5th and 4th floors, meaning that one hears every movement made by those above. My weekend stay involved Friday and Saturday nights and I was awoken between 2-5am on both nights by the occupants of the room above mine. There isn't much to say about people having a good time on Friday or Saturday nights--but if you ask for a quiet room, it would help to be put in a place that is quiet. The MERCURE brand charges a certain price for a certain level of comfort and amenities. I picked this hotel over the IBIS Roubaix on the basis of such reasoning. The price/quality ratio of this hotel, however, does not reflect what I have experienced at other MERCURE hotels. So I do not feel that the price paid reflected the value obtained. However, I did enjoy discovering Roubaix and the staff at the hotel were friendly and polite--and I could tell that they felt bad that my car had been vandalized! Their attitude and the beauty of Roubaix is what I will take away from this stay--but management of this hotel should invest in bringing the interiors and services (gym/sauna--and if there is a fire, then provide guests with an alternative, especially given the gym right next to the hotel!) up to the MERCURE standard if they charge their current prices.

We work hard to deliver an exceptional guest experience, and it's apparent in this case that we fell short. We are again really sorry for your car. We actually could not provide you a room far from the elevators regarding the room category you had... Regarding the sauna/steam room, there was no real "fire" but an important technical issue, so we had to close this area for a while. Our Restaurant closes indeed at 10PM as we did informed you. Fortunaltly, I am happy to see my colleagues did their best to provide you a soup from our "Menu du Marché" which we normally do not serve at the bar when the restaurant is closed. We took good note of your remarks regarding the building, and the soundproofing in some of our rooms and are currently working on this matter. We are otherwise happy to read all the positive elements you listed such as the Nuxe products, the location of the hotel, the staff, etc. If you give us a chance to earn back your trust, I can assure you that we will do our best to give you the great hotel experience that so many of our guests have grown so fond of. Sink didn't work and was fixed within a day. Third stay with mechanical issues. Breakfast is not good quality. Despite these issues, the hotel is the best in Roubaix. And the staff is very nice.

We arrived at 8pm after a day’s cycling de were looking forward to a nice meal - but the restaurant was closed and only cheese boards available on room service. The staff were very good in directing us to Uber Eats to get a meal delivered to the bar but for we did expect something better of this kind of hotel

Tiny room that is not maintained. The Heat control did not work -- the LCD display was fixed white with no information displayed and no ability to control from the buttons. The sink did not drain water -- I went under the sink and released a stuck drain adjuster. I made my reservation online after contacting the hotel and being told there were no rooms available. I recontacted the hotel and they could see my reservation but could not book the room themselves. It's possible that this room is not normally used because of it's condition and I was lucky to get a room at all. Versus not having a room, I was satisfied with having stayed here.

Great welcoming service at reception, but highly disappointing experience in terms of room comfort as it was excruciatingly warm, at 20C. The gym is tremendously disappointing as there was a rowing machine and an unstable nordic walking machine. One set of dumbels with 8kg of weights, overall poor quality. The service at dinner and breakfast were first class. I would probably stay in Lille next time.

No iron available my first day, i called eqrly the 2nd day and again they said they disnt have any Not sure you are really set up to cater to customers travelling for business Finally front desk was able to locate one for me... I found the waitress at the breakfast was rude as well, not convinced she is ‘happy’ working there

Rooms are ok, furniture a little dated and tired. Shower not particularly clean previous guests hair left on the tiles. We stayed a Saturday and Sunday evening, the hotel restaurant was open neither evening. It should be listed somewhere obvious to guests on booking that this is the case.

Within minutes of metro and subway. Short ride into lille so a good option. Rooms clean large. Beds comfortable decent rain shower. Its the little things. Night staff found me 4 safety pins for my running number for the semi marathon in lille insignificant to most. Meant a lot for me. Then the bar staff beer and wine not to my liking. Not a problem pick something else at no extra charge. I dont know the locality very well. But impressions were not many cosy places to drink. Maybe if the bar was candlelit just my wife's thought. Overall more than happy
