Beautiful hotel, Bad information from reception clerk ended our day on a sour note

A big positive: Our room was super clean and beautifully designed. Being right next door/ attached to the Midi Train Station is also extremely convenient for taking the train out of town. When we checked in at 6:00pm, Reception was very helpful and professional. A negative: Due to construction around the train station and hotel, we experienced big delays in trying to return our car rental (not the hotel's fault of course)... A negative relating to hotel personnel: When we finally walked into the hotel from the rental car return, it was 9:45pm. We needed dinner but preferred to go up to our room and freshen up a bit. We stopped at Reception, explained our situation (we were hungry but preferred to freshen up if we had the time), and the clerk said: "The restaurant is open until 10:30 and the bar is open until 11:00." When we arrived back downstairs, at about 10:15, only the bar was open and we were told: "The kitchen is closed. The only way you can get food is to go up to your room and order room service." I literally started crying because I was just so tired and frustrated and hungry. I have had health problems and the day had just become too much. Again, the delays and traffic we experienced were not the fault of Pullman Midi but the desk clerk was not correct in the information he gave us and it really messed us up. My husband was quite distressed at the situation and immediately went over to reception to report our situation. The clerk claimed that he had said 'the bar is Open' and Not that we could get food. In the heat of the moment, my husband did not write down the name of the clerk but the bar staff noted that perhaps he was an intern and did not yet have much experience. Thankfully our bartender went the extra mile and put a 'room service' order of food in for us and allowed us to eat at the bar. By the time we finished eating, it was after 11 and he was kind to allow us to stay. * No doubt it was a mistake, a misunderstanding, in what the Reception man told us but we felt extremely upset that no one offered to give us any kind of complimentary food or drink. Our drinks were 38 euros, our snack meal was around 40. We were told that the hotel manager would be on hand early in the morning but we had a very early Eurostar train to London and did not have time to stop by and discuss the situation. We felt that the responsible thing for the evening Reception staff should have made a digital note on our bill to have the hotel manager follow up with us. We have been home several days from our holiday and I considered not writing a review but it still makes me feel upset at the situation. I tried to email the manager directly (versus merely answering a Customer survey form) and hit dead ends in every way.

We stayed at Pullman Brussels Centre Midi for a visit to Brussels, Bruges and Ghent. Being connected to the train station was incredibly convenient for the day trips via train. It was also incredibly useful to have easy access to trains to the Brussels airport and on the Thalys train to/from Amsterdam. The staff was very kind and helpful. The room was spacious and clean. We do wish robes had been offered and the design on the mirror made it hard to see what you were doing when putting makeup on. I loved the scent of the shampoo/conditioner/shower gel/lotion and the fact it is in refillable containers to decrease environmental impact. When I inquired about the Go Green promotion where you get 100 points for each night you decline housekeeping, the staff indicated it wasn't offered by Accor any longer. I had just spent 13 nights at the Accor Ink Hotel in Amsterdam where it was offered, so that seems odd. I think that's a great program to decrease environmental impact. Additionally, because of my stay in Amsterdam, I was gold status upon arrival, but was charged 59 Euro for early check-in, which I thought was complementary with Gold Status.

A short stay to visit Brugge on a walking tour, and revisit sights in Brussels. The hotel is so convenient as a base, comfortable bed, sport on tv in the evening, and a more than adequate breakfast.
