For the last couple of years I have been coming to Karlsruhe on a regular basis and always chose the ibis Karlsruhe Hauptbahnhof. Checkin is quick and easy and the rooms are spacy and comfortable. Do not expect a luxury place here, but I like the building a lot and the hotel offers all facilities you would need. Due to the proximity of the station, I would think that it is also suitable for spending a couple of days of holidays in this area.
