OK location, terrible mattress + ventilation

Sh… Solo - Confirmed reviews ALL

I booked this hotel in order to be near the Winterthur station and a conference venue (the ZHAW). In that respect it was fine -- only a 10-15 minute walk or 5-minute bus ride. I wasn't specifically looking for a cheap hotel, and this wasn't particularly cheap -- I paid chf 129/1 night including breakfast. However, the mattress was so bad that I barely slept. I imagine it was like sleeping on a horse hair mattress from the old days! Also, the window was unopenable and the "climate control" was absolutely ineffective. Don't book here on a hot day as I'm sure it will be absolutely stifling! Another detail I didn't notice when I booked is that there is no hair dryer in the room. You have to pay chf 20 as a deposit at reception. The breakfast was ok -- I think it was an extra chf 10 (or maybe chf 20?). It included scrambled eggs, vienna sausages, yogurt, croissants, bread, cereal, juice (not very good) and coffee/tea.

My room was made up of course, but it was obvious the floor had not been hoovered/cleaned as there were bits and dust on the floor. The room was in need of decorating, and the whole look was not good. My access to the wifi kept dropping out and it was generally not a good experience. I should mention, however, that the Reception staff were very pleasant and helpful. I realise this is a "budget" hotel but the price is not "budget". It was around SFr. 128 per night which equates to about £125 - I stay in Melbourne every year (one of the major cities of the world) and can rent a 1 bed apartment for less than £100 a night.

The person who served as your "male" receptionist at your hotel when we checked in between 23.00-00.00 on 5-6 August 2024 Since we did not speak German or English, their sarcastic and racist attitudes were hurtful. -He didn't even try to contact us by phone using his translation program. -Even though we booked our room online, your hotel employee made our job difficult. -We had to stay uneasily in your hotel -We are completely disappointed..
