I write this with a grain of salt, as the Bledisloe Cup test match was taking place in the city, likely causing accommodation to be fully booked. I arrived at 3:35 pm, but my room was not ready. I was asked to wait and, upon inquiring about the estimated time—mentioning that I was in town for the rugby and due to meet people—the receptionist said he would check. It appeared I may have been bumped up the priority list as I noticed several other guests in the foyer waiting for their rooms as well, since the person ahead of me had also been told their room was not ready. While the check-in process itself was fine and the staff member was helpful, the delay was inevitable given the circumstances. The room matched the description provided. However, one of the two elevators appeared to be malfunctioning, forcing its doors open and thus the 2nd elevator not being called. Guests, including myself, had to return to the front desk to see if the issue could be resolved. Later, around 1:00 am (or shortly after midnight), I returned and visited the hotel’s 24-hour facilities. The complimentary coffee and water stations were completely out of cups. When I asked for a replacement, I was told, “Maybe all the guests have taken them.” I then had to additionally ask if I could use a glass for water, and was handed a wine glass. Disappointing all round, really.

The location is great and very convenient for getting around. However, the room was tiny and felt like a prison cell. Neither the TV nor the Wi-Fi worked. There were no basic amenities like hand soap either. The toilet was right next to the shower without any partition, so the entire bathroom floor got soaked after showering. The clothes rack was set so high that I couldn't reach it as a shorter woman. To make matters worse, it was very noisy at night, and the staff were extremely unfriendly and unhelpful. I will definitely never stay here again.

I was booked in for 3 nights and wasn't expecting the Taj Mahal. I did expect to feel safe and sadly this was not the case, and I nearly left after the first night. There was an insane amount of noise that I thought was from the room next door. Later, I realised it was from the road, and I could hear it despite being on floor 15. To add to my feeling of being unsafe, someone tried to open my door in the early evening. Thankfully, it did automatically lock and they were unable to get in. They did not try again, but I spent the night listening and looking through the peep hole. Because I did not really want to move, I stuck it out and my experience improved. But on the plus side, the bed was comfortable and the other facilities adequate for the price. This hotel is in a great location being right in the center of town but if you are after a peaceful night, this is not the place to stay on a Friday or Saturday night. In contrast, Sunday was very peaceful.
