I always stay with Accor, I love the brand and use it a lot in Australia. My first time in NZ and we had spent a week at the Pullman at Rotaroa. We decided for a 2 night stop at S/O on the way home and I knew this was a premium brand so was quite looking forward to it. It was an incredibly flash hotel, but it just missed the mark. The hotel is used for conferences it seems, especially with airlines and training. Many times when entering the lobby it was difficult to walk around due to the sheer volume of people and noise. Further to this, we were unable to access the hotel bar as this was reserved for a private function - we did find this odd as as PLatinum member that we couldn't use parts of the hotel. Please don't get me wrong, the hotel was lovely and everyone was friendly, but it was just incredibly difficult to be able to move around or go to the bar. We had just come from the Pullman which was a solid 11 out of 10, but I guess I expected the wow from the service we got there as well as what we normally get in Australia.

Right from the moment arrived the service was terrible. From valet to checkin. Then elevator problems. Took us the the wrong floors and there are no buttons inside to get to the desired level. Manager not able to see when they should step in. Very poor.

Light switches were hard to find and in inconvenient places. Bathroom vanity ridiculously small for a 5 stat. Shower not in keeping with 5 star. Hotel trying to be funky at the cost of guest comfort.
