The check-in process was disappointing and set the tone for our stay. Despite being asked for identification, the receptionist was unable to locate our reservation because she was searching under the wrong surname. We had booked two rooms, yet only one room was initially allocated to us and we had to point out the error ourselves. There were also issues with our breakfast entitlement, which was included in our booking but was not recognised at check-in. In addition, my Accor Gold status was not acknowledged, and I was not offered any of the usual benefits or upgrades associated with the membership. This gave the impression that the staff may not have been adequately trained on both reservation handling and loyalty programme recognition. Later, while having drinks at the bar, I waited to be served as the staff member was assisting at reception, which was understandable. She acknowledged me and indicated that I would need to wait. However, after waiting for quite some time without service, I returned to my table. Given that she had seen me waiting at the bar, I expected she might come over to ask if I still needed assistance once she became available, but instead both reception staff appeared to be engaged in conversation. As someone who also works in the hotel industry, I found these service shortcomings disappointing and indicative of a need for further staff training, particularly in guest service and attention to detail. On a positive note, the breakfast was very good and was one of the highlights of our stay.

Lovely hotel. The room was lovely and clean . The staff were lovely on the reception desk and as we were there for our 40th wedding anniversary they had decorated the room with balloons and red petals on the bed. It is ideally placed for a walk from the railway station and getting in to the centre of York. Will definitely back to stay and would recommend to family and friends.

Good location, 10 minutes from the train station and 15 minutes from the city center. Comfortable rooms, spacious enough for three people. Decent breakfast (european and english). Gluten-free bread was available upon request, unfortunately there were very few other gluten-free options (grilled tomatos, mushrooms sautéed), but the staff was kind and prepared for us fried egs. Also very good expresso at the breakfast.
