It was pleasure to stay at the hotel. Overall average is ok. Clean and nice rooms. Food was normal and nothing special. The receptionist Merna has a beautiful smile always even though she looks tired. The cleaning staff also were always smiling and welcoming us all the time.

Novotel Cairo 6th October – A Disappointing Stay with Unacceptable Standards

Customer review rating 1.0/5

Overview I recently stayed at the Novotel Cairo 6th October for 30 days, an extended period that gave me a thorough understanding of the hotel’s operations, service levels, and overall hospitality standards. Unfortunately, my experience was riddled with inconsistencies, poor service, and a general lack of attention to detail. While the property has potential, it falls far short of the expected standards of a reputable international brand like Novotel. Food & Beverage – A Disaster from Breakfast to Dinner Dining was one of the most disappointing aspects of my stay. With no choice but to eat nearly every night in my room, I encountered: Breakfast: A complete disaster. The selection was extremely limited, with most options focused on bread, making it highly inconvenient for those with dietary restrictions such as gluten intolerance. The quality of ingredients was shockingly poor, more akin to a low-budget two-star establishment than a four-star hotel. Staff at Breakfast: I had to queue behind hotel staff most mornings just to get a cup of coffee, as employees from various departments helped themselves to the buffet, often before guests. Dinner: The menu was extremely limited, perhaps due to ongoing renovations, but still lacked variety. The food quality was inconsistent; the four dishes I tried were never cooked or presented the same way twice. There was no adherence to culinary standards, and the lack of consistency was frustrating. F&B Management: The Food & Beverage Manager and Duty Manager acted more like dictators than hospitality professionals, refusing to accommodate personal preferences and requests. Despite explicitly declining room service, I was denied the option to have my meal prepared to my liking and sent to my room. Their rigid and dismissive attitude was completely unacceptable. Service & Staff – A Hit-or-Miss Experience Service was unpredictable, ranging from indifferent to outright rude: Reception Staff: Often more engaged with their mobile phones than with guests. A basic greeting was rare, and professionalism was clearly lacking. Housekeeping: Cleaning was done carelessly. The carpet was vacuumed only in an approximate manner, the TV remained stained for my entire stay despite reporting it on my first day, and the bathroom was cleaned with minimal effort. However, the laundry service was a rare positive – efficient and fast. General Attitude: Some staff were polite and professional, but this was not the norm. Assistance and friendliness depended on the individual and the day, making for an inconsistent guest experience. Facilities – Outdated and Poorly Maintained Gym: Outdated and in desperate need of modernisation. Cleanliness: Falls well below international standards. While cleanliness may meet local Egyptian expectations, by global hospitality benchmarks, the hotel is far from acceptable. Renovation Disruptions: The ongoing refurbishment, particularly on the 5th floor, was extremely noisy throughout the day. While renovations are necessary for improvement, this does not excuse the overall lack of professionalism, politeness, and operational consistency. WiFi – A Major Issue The WiFi on the 5th floor was appallingly weak, making work and communication extremely frustrating. Although routers were provided, they were hardly any better. For a business traveller, this was unacceptable. Security – A Joke and a Hazard The security staff handled my luggage so carelessly at the X-ray machine that my bag fell, resulting in damage to my laptop. Security checks should be conducted with professionalism and care, but in this case, they caused more harm than protection. Conclusion – A Huge Miss with Wasted Potential Despite its potential, the Novotel Cairo 6th October is currently a huge disappointment. The lack of consistency, poor service, subpar food quality, and inadequate cleanliness make it far from a four-star experience. The ongoing renovations may offer hope for improvements in infrastructure, but the real issue lies with poor staff training, weak management, and a fundamental lack of hospitality culture. Would I recommend this hotel? Absolutely not. Until major changes are made in both service standards and management approaches, this property fails to meet even the most basic expectations of a mid-range international hotel brand.
