We were very disappointed with the reception. My colleague arrived before me, as she had travelled up from northern england on the train. I flew in from Basel, and due unforseen circustances was flown to prestwick, as edinburgh airport was closed, which meant i arrived a lot later. Because the booking was in my name, they refused to let my colleague into the room unless she paid, even though I sent her the details. The guy on reception was rather intimidating and brusk, and made my colleague wait in the lobby for a few hours till I arrived. Very disappointing. Wonder if she would have been treated the same way if she had been a man. a man.

Great location: Still the centre, but a bit on the sidelines—the area is not that touristy noise, but still full of nice places around. The room was huge and ad everything we needed, including a comfy bed and a safe. Nice breakfast with an opportunity to make your own waffles—yum. Staff was British-grumpy, as always—meh, didn't care much. The toilet and the bathroom are separated—a bit annoying. The light in the room was slightly off: too bright, without proper zonality. Oh, and a hilarious story about the false fire alarm at 3:50 AM—that was brilliant. Funny thing we needed to wake up just 20 min later for the morning flight.

Nice enough hotel, however even though it’s been about ten years since I last stayed here, I thought it was over back then. The rooms are nice, but a bit dark. The tv is a nightmare to work, and there are no smart tv apps! No coffee machine in room, for a hotel like this I would expect at least a nespresso machine - not little sachets of the worst instant coffee! Pool was fine, albeit a bit sad. Water was freezing.
