The room was surprisingly big. It‘s a double room but seems to be two single beds combined. That was fine but maybe will be better if the duvet could be a double bed size. The lighting of the room could also be a bit brighter. Staffs are reasonably friendly.

At check-in, we were not informed that renovation work was taking place on our floor throughout the day. Drilling noise continued during working hours, which was very disturbing. No alternative floor or room was offered at that time. We tried to adapt by spending less time in the hotel, but whenever we were there, the noise was quite uncomfortable. In the evening, once the renovation work stopped, we hoped to finally relax. However, a new guest arrived in the room above us, where a child was running around until late at night. Due to poor sound insulation, the noise and stomping were clearly audible in our room. I reported this to the reception at 10 p.m., where I was told that noise is allowed until 10, and they could only take action after that. Nevertheless, the noise did not stop after 10 p.m., and on Saturday it continued until midnight. The hotel never followed up to ask whether the situation had been resolved, nor did it seem that any real effort was made to address the issue. When we asked for another room, we were told that the hotel was fully booked. Just a suggestion: in such situations, it might be worth relocating families with small, very active children to lower floors or swapping rooms. Overall, it felt like guests are only important until check-in and payment are completed. No form of compensation was offered, which was particularly disappointing. On the positive side, the room itself was spacious and comfortable. It could have been a bit cleaner, but this was not a major issue. However, there was an unusual and rather unpleasant smell in the corridor, which could easily be improved with a pleasant air freshener.

We first stayed at this hotel in 2007 when it was relatively new. Many of the things we liked about it are still applicable today: excellent location, very large and clean rooms for the price, comfortable beds. We have never had a negative experience in the times we have stayed, but we are independent travellers and don't expect to be waited on hand and foot and everything just the way we like it (reading some of the reviews of this place remind us how spoiled some people are). The breakfast was good when we had it, but is on the pricey side; there are plenty of cafés and coffee shops nearby if you don't want to pay for the extra convenience. The bar is pleasant and a nice place to hang out in between things to do. Since 2007, there have been a few refits, especially the bathrooms and the reception areas. These were welcome, but the rest of the décor in the rooms is looking a little dated and tired. If I was asked to advise, I would retire the orange/blue colour scheme and replace the carpets. Is this a deal breaker for us? No. However, one complaint we would share in common with others we read is that the safe didn't work when we arrived and never got fixed when we pointed it out. Fortunately it wasn't a big deal for us! Overall I would definitely recommend this hotel if you want a convenient, spacious and clean place to stay.
