Excellent location, friendly staff, comfortable room, hotel refurbishment needed

We stayed here for 6 nights in February 2025. The location is excellent, right in the geographic center of Rabat, walkable to many attractions, restaurants, and cafés. The modern tram system is also very close by. The check-in and check-out were efficient and friendly. The hotel itself is quite dated and could use a major refurbishment; however the room itself was very comfortable, quiet, and well-lit. The cable TV system had a few English channels, including CNN, but could have had more. There were not enough electrical outlets in the room. There should have been a strong bar to hold onto, at a reasonable height, when one is taking a shower, since the surface of the bathtub is very slippery. I would also recommend making the entire hotel non-smoking. Currently, there are smoking floors and non-smoking floors, meaning thst there's always at least a slight odor of smoke everywhere. The lounge on the ground floor and the seating area on the mezzanine are also very smoky. Fortunately, the breakfast room is non-smoking, and the breakfast, which we tried once, is varied and delicious.

You get what you pay for

The hotel staff were friendly and helpful but the rooms and interior is old and know that this matches the price expectation. While one cannot fault the cleanliness in the rooms or the hotel its the small details that can make the difference between feeling like it is good value for money vibe or just "you get what you paid for" vibe . Things like stained carpets, worn bed throws, poor paint work and just an overall tackiness on countertops in the bedrooms together with general wear and tear. The website for booking was not easy to navigate and the small print once again caught me. A bitter taste was left behind when they outright refused to meet me half way on any of the overpayments I had done due to one of the delegates in our party not attending (despite 2 weeks prior notice). They would not even refund his breakfast meals or offset them against other delegate meals. Instead I was forced to pay for the room we never used and 3 breakfasts. If one is honest they were just following policy which one can appreciate but in hospitality one would expect a compromise even if for sake of principle alone. I would return to it but not without exploring other options first.
