SoloStays Solo travel - TripAdvisor review

The location of the hotel is excellent, situated only a few steps from some of the most touristic areas. It is only a 5 minute walk to the bus stop of the TAN shuttle to the airport which takes 20 mins (9 euro). Being in the centre of the touristic areas does bring with it noise and liveliness which has to be expected. The lobby area is a refuge from this and is a modern tranquil area to lounge about and enjoy a drink. It is all very nicely decorated with plush furniture and artistic flavour. Off from the lobby is a business area, a bar and the breakfast room. The greeting at reception was very pleasant but unfortunately the room selected for me was not ready even though it was after check-in time. I had booked a privilege room and supposedly they were honouring my booking request for a larger room (for yoga), standard to have an upgrade as a Gold member and I was more than happy to head off into town for 45 mins. Upon return and entry to the room I was very surprised to see it was quite standard and indeed small by my standards. The room was well decorated and in keeping with the style of the hotel. The majority of the room was taken up with a very comfortable bed overlooked by a large screen TV. There was a comfortable seat with table, large enough to do some work on. There was a cabinet with mini bar inside stocked with a water, beer, soda and a fruit juice. This is replenished daily along with the coffee pods for the Nespresso machine. The room has a separate shower room and WC. The shower was a pleasant walk in with large rain shower head. The vanity area was however quite small and although there was a lock on the WC door, none on the shower room door. The room was very comfortable and inviting. However the WiFi was very disappointing. From the chair and table only two bars could be achieved on any device giving a download speed of 3mbs. If you stood at the door you got full bars of strength and around 20mbs. Going out into the hall and locating the router you could achieve 30mbs. They need to increase their routers in the corridors in order to reach all rooms properly. Forget Netflix and YouTube in bed. It could however do with a few touch ups of paint in areas and a good carpet clean to get rid of the stains. I enjoyed a cappuccino from the bar as my welcome drink but had to ring the bell and wait five minutes for a staff member to attend, this was even after going to reception to ask. I also never seemed to be able to time it right for the room cleaning. Whether I left early in the morning or late morning or early afternoon. On one day I left the "cleaning required" sign on while I was in, just so I could at least get the coffee replenished. At checkout there seemed to be confusion over breakfasts and carparking wanting additional money, none of which I'd taken. Overall this is a very pleasant hotel in a great location. It is very comfortable and well appointed but could do with some improvement.

We then looked for the room that offers you the most free space to practice yoga. Unfortunately we did not have a suite, otherwise we would have been happy to upgrade you! We have taken note of some recommendations such as improving the wifi signal, painting and cleaning the carpets. We are listening to our guests and reading your comments is the best way to improve because only you who take advantage of the hotel services give us the best feedback. Concerning the waiting time at the bar, our bartenders are in charge of breakfast, room service and the bar, which explains their absence at the counter at certain times. This is why we have installed a bell at the counter to let them know when a customer wants to exchange and they are not present. We are sorry if these few negative points have impacted you during your stay. This is my second stay in this hotel - and I really enjoyed it. I got a suite with an - obviously freshly renovated bathroom (and for me the bathroom is the most important in any hotel) - so I could really enjoy a shower with pleasure !!! Not talking about the bed - it was ever so comfortable, 4 cushions - so again exactly made to my needs - I hardly ever had such a good sleep before. Well done Mercure !
