wasn't allowed to use the handicap bathroom on the ground floor, I had to go up to my own room and come down again. Carpet on the floor is too thick for a wheelchair and the doorstep is a bit high

Dear Team, I am writing to formally escalate a serious complaint regarding my stay at Résidence Mercure Paris La Défense Grande Arche on 19 June 2026. This was not a minor inconvenience, but a serious failure of basic hotel service, combined with unacceptable staff behaviour. After check-in, we found that the room was old, noisy and poorly maintained. The bathroom door made loud noises, and in the morning we were also disturbed by renovation/construction noise, which seriously affected our rest. Most importantly, there was no hot water. This is a basic hotel requirement, not an optional service. When we reported this to the front desk, the staff member Jemima was dismissive, confrontational and unprofessional. She repeatedly said that: - no solution could be offered; - no manager or technician was available;- - the hotel did not provide 24-hour service; - if we wanted to complain, we were free to do so. When I said this was the first time I had heard of a hotel not being able to provide basic 24-hour assistance, she replied that “this is France / Europe” and that we needed to accept it. She further stated that she could do absolutely nothing that night and forced me to return to the reception at exactly 8:00 AM the next morning to resolve the issue, stating that I had to adapt to their schedule. She also insisted that this was the first time she had ever heard of a hot water complaint at this hotel. This was clearly not credible, as similar complaints about hot water can be easily found in public Google reviews of this property. As an Accor Gold member, I was also never recognized upon check-in. When I mentioned my Gold status during the discussion, Jemima responded aggressively and dismissively, saying words to the effect of: “So what? Everyone here is Gold member. We also have Business Class and Platinum members. Why are you the only one having a problem?” This response was completely inappropriate and unacceptable. Even more concerning, when we challenged her attitude, she stated that her English was “perfect” and implied that the problem was that we could not understand her. This felt disrespectful, humiliating, and carried a discriminatory undertone. The following morning, I had to spend my valuable travel time returning to the reception to speak with the duty manager. Although the manager was polite and arranged a room change, the operational solution resulted in a significant downgrade: we were moved from our originally booked Suite to a standard Double Room with a sofa bed for three adults. According to the official ALL Accor application, this new room is priced lower than the Suite we originally paid for. Furthermore, the air conditioning in this new room was barely functioning, and the overall condition remained barely satisfactory. The hotel only offered complimentary breakfast as an apology, which is completely inadequate compensation for a severe room downgrade, a malfunctioning AC, a failed stay, and the initial lack of basic hot water. The issue is no longer only about the lack of hot water. It is about the complete absence of accountability, professionalism, basic respect, and service recovery. A hotel failing to provide hot water is already unacceptable. A staff member responding with hostility, sarcasm, and open disregard for guest concerns is far more serious. This experience also caused significant physical discomfort, stress, and disruption to our plans. Due to the lack of hot water, poor sleeping conditions, and the highly distressing interaction with your staff, we were unable to rest properly and suffered from headaches and considerable discomfort the following day. Furthermore, a substantial part of the following day was wasted dealing with this issue, including repeated discussions with hotel staff, complaint submissions, and the resulting disruption to our schedule. This incident has had a clear negative impact not only on our stay, but also on our overall travel experience. This incident reflects extremely poorly on both this property and the Accor brand. I expect this matter to be formally investigated, including the staff conduct, and I expect a clear explanation, a refund for the room price difference due to the downgrade, and appropriate compensation. I look forward to your prompt response. Kind regards, Wenxuan L.

My stay was for business as I had a meeting spanning several days with a client in the La Defense area. The location was great for access to trains as well as the offices in the area. Staff were very welcoming and helpful throughout. My only minor criticism of the stay was that the Restaurant was not available - which made eating a meal on Sunday evening difficult as there were very few restaurants open in the area at the time.

I have done quite a lot of stays with Accor/Mercure/4* hotels and I have to say I was very disappointed by this one. While the room was of a good size, the amenities were very poor (only two pillows, one towel, one 1-in-2 gel/shampoo). The main issue is the noise: you can hear the train every single time it runs. As it starts at 5am and runs past midnight, it is very difficult to sleep if you are sensitive to noise. The wifi also kept disconnecting. I would not recommend staying here, it is absolutely not worth the price.
