When we arrived at the reception to check-in, the man at the reception didn’t even greet us - not even a “hello”. Instead, he straightway ‘demanded’ the ID and credit card. I said “hello” and instead of saying “hello” back to me, he repeated “handover the ID and credit card”. After a minute or so he ‘demanded’ me to show the booking confirmation! I got confused and asked if this is ibis Sydney darling harbour? He said yes and raised his voice and asked me to show the booking confirmation. I showed the booking confirmation on the app. It turned out that he has mixed up my first name and surname when he was searching for the booking on the hotel computer. I had paid fully at the time I booked the room several months ago. But he tapped my credit card on a device before giving back to me. I asked him why he did that. He said that it is a $1 bond. I have never heard anything like that before. That $1 bond never appeared on my payment card’s transaction list. So, I suspect that it wasn’t about a $1 bond but something else. There was no need for him to tap the card on any machine since we had already paid fully at the time of booking. He was like an army commander! We were embarrassed how he treated us with people in the lobby watching us. This was our worst hotel check-in experience ever! This incident - on our first day - had a negative effect on us. May be this man is trying to get bad reviews to the hotel. If that is the case, then he has succeeded well!
