A bit disappointed with our experience at the Sofitel at Darling Harbour. For one, we were not advised that there was on going construction in front of the hotel, right below our room, and it was quite noisy for the first day. Secondly, the mini bar in our room was checked by an employee half an hour after we had checked in, which seemed rather odd. We returned back home to find that the hotel had charged with use of two items from the mini bar which we had not utilized. We have still to receive a response from the hotel in this regard, and not even an acknowledgement of having received our complaint. So now we are having had to deal with this issue through our credit card company. On a positive note the location is great and very convenient, loved the rooms which were very well maintained and beds are comfortable, though we were unable to regulate the temperature, to cool the room, so found it rather warm and uncomfortable at night as they only provide a comforter and no cover sheet.

My stay was very nice. Breakfast was very nice. So much to choose from. Only issue very noisy due to construction happening outside on Darling Harbour. Could not sleep in.

I really appreciated the reception area where they were beautiful croissants and quality Coffee and the seating down there was a delightful atmosphere The downside was at 11:30 at night. We were given the wrong hotel room so when we went to one 012 the key didn’t work and there were people insiders. We were banging and knocking trying to get inside. When we were given when we went, one of those didn’t work It may sound self-centred but I would’ve thought a apology bottle of wine or chocolate might’ve been appropriate because nearing midnight it was not a fun experience

I don’t normally leave reviews, but after my stay at Sofitel Darling Harbour, I feel compelled to share just how frustrating and underwhelming the experience was. First off, the check-in process was an absolute disaster. Both times we tried to check in (once when we arrived early to drop off our bags, and again when we returned after 3pm), the staff couldn’t even find our booking by my name. I had to pull up our booking on my phone both times to prove that we actually had a reservation. It’s beyond frustrating when you're paying $600 a night for what’s supposed to be a “luxury” stay and the staff can’t even confirm your room without you doing their job for them. Apparently, they were doing staff training, which is fine, but they should’ve informed us ahead of time, rather than leaving us standing there waiting while they tried to sort things out. The windows in our room were absolutely disgusting. We could hardly see out of them, as they were covered in layers of grime. You’d think that for the price, basic things like clean windows would be a given, but no. It wasn’t until the last night of our stay that they were finally cleaned. A hotel of this caliber should have a window cleaner on staff regularly, not just once every few days. To top it off, we were told check-in was at 3pm, but when we showed up early to drop off our bags, we were told to wait for a text when our room was ready. We never received a message, so by 3:45pm, we decided to just turn up at reception again, and still no one communicated with us about what was going on. No updates, no apologies, just complete radio silence. And then, after we checked in, we asked if we could use the pool or spend some time at the bar while waiting for a late flight, but we were told no. So, we were essentially kicked out of the room at 10am with nowhere to go for hours. This is not what you expect from a luxury hotel. To make matters worse, we left a small toiletries bag in the bedside table. The next day, we contacted the hotel to report it, and they assured us they’d investigate. A full week went by with no communication, so my wife had to follow up. Only then did we get an email saying they couldn’t find it. Of course, by that point, it was long gone. It felt like they never even tried to look. For the price we paid, the service was completely underwhelming. The check-in process was a joke, the windows were filthy, and the overall experience was far from luxurious. I honestly didn’t feel like we were on a luxury holiday at all. We won’t be returning, and I strongly advise others to think twice before booking. There are much better options out there for the same price—or less—with far superior service.
