We booked a room at Sofitel Darling Harbour for us and our young son to celebrate a few days for our wedding anniversary - which included Club Millésime lounge access. Upon check-in, we went to enjoy the le goûter at 3pm, and was especially delighted by the accomodation of the Senior Butler Elmo who recognised us from our previous stay, and provided warming service delivering activity books and gifts for my son to keep him interested during our time there!

Suzyboomer TripAdvisor review

Booked weeks ago to include a room with Darling Harbour view. Avoid rooms below about the 12th floor at the moment due to views below this level including a very up close view of cranes and construction activity starting at 6.50am. In fairness our room on level 8 was modern, very clean and comfortable. Staff were pleasant and helpful but reception weren’t very interested in my feedback upon checkout today. In hindsight I should have given them a chance to move us but during the afternoon we were out and about walking around this beautiful city. Hotel breakfast was amazing with lots of variety, good service and very fresh pastries! Yum.

We had such a lovely time at the hotel champagne bar, and a big part of that was thanks to our waitress, Mia. She was genuinely kind, always had a smile on her face, and made us feel really comfortable from the moment we walked in. Even though the bar was busy, she never seemed rushed and always made time to check in on us. It’s rare to come across someone so warm and down-to-earth — she really made our night. Can’t recommend her enough!

Excellent service but disappointing air conditioning system

My family and I arrived early in the morning from our overseas holiday, with us having less than two hours of sleep. We reached the hotel around 9:30 am, well before the standard 3 pm check-in time, so I wasn’t expecting an early check-in. Philip greeted us and took care of our bags until our room was ready. Thankfully, we were able to check in at 12 pm. Our overall stay was great; the room was very clean, and we enjoyed the higher floor with the nice view. My only complaint during our stay was the air conditioning system. I often woke up in the middle of the night overheating, struggling to fall back asleep. The air conditioning reset to 22.5 degrees every time we left the room, making it feel stuffy when we returned. As for the service, Philip was very attentive. He had already brought our bags to our room before we came to pick up our key card, assisted us to receive our welcome drinks, provided us an umbrella when it was raining, and ensured we were well taken care of during checkout. Overall, if the air conditioning issue could be resolved, this would be a perfect stay as I was very happy with the cleanliness and service.

Not the experience we had in 2023

Came to this hotel after an awesome stay back in 2023. However, this time was so short of our experience (and as diamond members). Check in was painful and not to the high standard, we were left having to question check in and amenities for us and the friends who stayed. Room service (and turn down) only happened when we requested it multiple times. Bath towels had to be requested and we didn’t get any new ones until the following day. Wine glasses were left used and not replaced and we had to keep asking service team to sort things out almost daily. AC, towels, water etc. we had raved to our friends about this place and then the experience just felt short of the hotel experience in many ways. Our cards didn’t work on day two and we had to sort this out this was after we had to continuously ask if our room was ready on day 1 even though we had advised an early arrival time and after 3pm standard check in time we were still waiting. We had to push for lounge access after a flight from NZ and even then we shouldn’t have had to keep asking. We tried called room service but the phone didn’t work, I worked out how to reset it and when we got through they couldn’t hear us anyway. We asked for bottled water and they said we would be charged $8. This standard with our rooms and we had to ask over two days to get bottled water which eventually arrived. One day our room wasn’t made up until 5pm so we just had to sit there and wait until they left so we could get ready to go out. They then replaced body wash with another shampoo. We travel a lot and only stay at Accor and mostly Sofitel hotels. I wouldn’t go as far as saying as we wouldn’t come back, but we would definitely consider other hotels when we come back later in the year. Hope this feedback helps with future training.
