Rooms are very basic and in need of renovation, the desk and side tables have wood peeling off. The mirror in the bathroom is old and dated with parts of the mirror peeling off at the bottom. The bathroom is very tiny and there is no room in the shower. The bed was very hard and uncomfortable which did not bode well for a good nights sleep. The hotel is in the middle of China Town and there were fireworks going off at intervals during the night. I know that this could not be helped with it being Chinese New Year, but you would have thought that the windows would have been double glazed to cut down on any outside noise. The breakfast was to a certain point ok except for the eggs which tasted as if they were powdered and made up in the morning; there was no choice if you wanted fried or poached etc.

Very basic room, with work required in areas of the hotel. Restaurant had a limited and very basic menu- pretty sure my soup was of the tinned variety rather than made in their kitchen. Staff polite and helpful even during a time of IT issues for reception team.

This property is located in the heart of downtown with walking distance to attractions and major places like main train station, City Centre, Bull Ring Mall, Council Hall, City Library, Historical Church, Grocery store, fine dining restaurants and Pubs. The property itself is located right in China town, a spot full of life. The staff starting from the receptionists to the housekeepers to the restaurant and bar attendants are extremely professional, polite and respectful. I would specially mention RAJU a restaurant waiter and girls on the reception who would go out of the way to help in the matters that may not be related to their specific business. I observed the Manager ED working very hard almost around the clock helping guests and his teammates. I found him a great leader who leads by example. Such team players are hard to find which makes me understand the success of this business. I have stayed at many IBIS branded hotels around the globe and would say without hesitation that I found this IBIS property the best in the world. It’s not easy to run businesses so successfully. It only speaks of higher training standards of employees and the best practices enforced by the management. I would strongly recommend this property to travellers. Great peace of mind knowing that most significant places to visit were just at a walking distance. Birmingham International Airport is only 10-14 minutes by train with trains leaving every 4 minutes minimum and 10 minutes maximum. I stayed 5 nights here and would like to thank the entire hotel staff’s hospitality, care and respect I received. Even the security staff in the late hours whose job is to simply provide security went out of his way to help me in non hotel related issues. The staff has a great knowledge about the city and can steer you in the right direction for any questions you may have. Ironically , it’s not an expensive hotel and staying there is really worth the money. Thank you IBIS Birmingham, New Street. I am very impressed with your overall operations.
