Very basic and small room but surprised by the good service in front reception guy

Given the price I paid, no high expectation on the room. The towels should be changed now. The wear and tear is showing very prominently. One of the toilet lights not working but I didn’t report as it really didn’t bother me since another is working. Very pleased with the front reception guy whom check me in, he is so friendly. I was given a drink voucher due to my silver status and he was in charge again to pour me BIG cup of white wine. He even brought me peanuts to go with the white wine. Thumbs up to this guy. I didn’t ask for the name. Otherwise I will mention here.

The hotel itself was well placed, 5 minutes from the train station and 2 minutes from the town. When we arrived we were informed that the intranet used for the booking system was down and the gentleman on the front desk would need to let us into our rooms. For the record, he was exceptionally helpful and kind and I Tweeted Accor about him. The room itself was clean and incredibly well soundproofed which was really good. I do however have two points I want to raise that knocked the score down. 1. The booking system wound up being down for 8 days. So for 8 days your brilliant staff at this hotel were running up and down opening doors for people and relying on pens and paper. Is 8 days really the fastest this could have been fixed? I'd have thought this would be considered an urgent incident? It didn't inconvenience me but I can't imagine it painted the best picture of the company. 2. Being British the first thing we did upon arrival was look for a kettle only to find there wasn't one which is fine, not all hotels in Europe have them. I asked the man downstairs if he had any we could pay a bit extra for and he said normally yes but they were all in use and to check the next day. The next day we asked and the (also helpful) lady in the desk said that in Germany it wasn't legal to have kettles in the room due to fire risk. I don't mind us not having one but a consistent answer would have been good. Another minor point from a branding perspective as well - there is an Ibis City directly next to an Ibis Budget in Ulm. We went to the Budget one in error and were directed to Ibis City but the staff at both hotels said neither had anything to do with the other. To a know-nothing like me, seeing two Ibis hotels next to each other on the same street you'd assume there'd be some kind of knowledge/resource sharing between the two. I get that they are likely different brands under the Accor umbrella but I trust you can see why this is confusing to people visiting.

Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We hope to welcome you back to our hotel very soon! Sincerely,
