Our experience started with a long check-in even though we already checked in online to avoid the wait, as per the email sent to encourage online check-in. The problem was the new self-service system wanted to charge us €70 euros extra, so the receptionist who just finished her shift, kindly stayed and tried to fix the issue, but it took over 20 minutes to get it sorted out. Thank you Simon for going the extra mile. Then the rooms were ok, but somethings were not working and when we asked, we were told they can't be fixed and the hotel is fully booked so we couldn't have different rooms. On to the positives: - Breakfast was OK. - The kids enjoyed the little pool. - The outdoor garden was nice and spacious. - The City Centre was within walking distance, even with the kids.

Overall, we were quite disappointed. After a long day of travelling, we arrived at the hotel and were greeted rather coldly by a staff member who simply pointed at a self-service check-in screen. Having to complete the check-in ourselves was not a problem in itself, but the way it was communicated felt unfriendly. There was no welcome, no greeting, and no offer of assistance such as, “Let us know if you need any help or have any questions.” The check-out experience was similar, which we could have accepted. However, when we tried to leave the car park, our parking ticket didn’t work. Although we had already paid for parking, we were never informed during check-in that the ticket needed to be exchanged at the reception before leaving. When we returned to reception for help, the staff member’s attitude was once again poor and came across as unhelpful. The room itself was nice and clean, but unfortunately it was very warm, which made the stay less comfortable.

My recent stay at Mercure Aachen Europaplatz was overall acceptable, but the new self-service check-in process was extremely disappointing. The new terminal-based check-in system is a disaster. None of the information already provided during the booking process is transferred to the terminal, forcing guests to enter all their details again. This takes far too long and creates unnecessary queues. On top of that, German special characters (umlauts) do not work properly, which makes the process even more frustrating. It is also completely unclear where to obtain the parking exit ticket. As a result, after spending several minutes at the terminal, guests still need to queue again to speak with a staff member who then has to resolve all these issues. This is simply unacceptable, especially considering that the room rates are far from those of a budget hotel. The stay itself was fine. The room was reasonably clean, although not perfectly maintained. The staff were consistently very friendly, helpful, and professional, which helped compensate for some of the shortcomings of the check-in experience. Rating: 3/5 – A decent stay with excellent staff, but the new check-in process urgently needs improvement.

Had pre-checked in but no record of it on arrival. Room (bathroom in particular) had a strange smell. Car park had lots of people loitering who clearly weren’t hotel guests, which felt uneasy. Reception area was nice.

When we checked in for one month, during summer we faced lots issues with air-conditioning, due to which we were not able sleep at night. Lift was not working for more than 15 days, I am sure it will still not be working for some more time.

The hotel itself is clean and spacious. We really enjoyed the pool terrace during dinner and the lovely lady serving us at the restaurant. Reception staff was also very friendly and helpful. The room was not the newest but honestly spotless. We were pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness. The beds were unfortunately not very comfortable and our sleep was ruined by housekeeping staff that knocked on our door waking us up 3 times at 8am 9:30am and 11am. We reported this to the reception as this really ruined our stay and they said they have had multiple complaints regarding this. They should not be doing this as early as 8am and if the timeframe is too tight for them to clean all rooms maybe consider moving check out to 11am because it really made us feel unwelcome and impossible to get a good night sleep which is the reason we had booked this hotel in the first place.

- no clerk at desk upon arrival, terminal check in - advertised ac, air conditioning only on when temp outside is >20c Room was sticky and hot - Room service now every 3 days - shower drain clogged water runs over - safety box don’t work - parking cost now 15euro per night ( before had free or 10 euro) - city tax should be added during booking, not additional at check in Overall very disappointing! Most likely will not book again!
