Ibis Budget Darlinghurst is my favourite Accor hotel. I’ve visited multiple times, and have always had a great experience here. The upper floors have the most gorgeous view of Sydney Harbour, at no extra charge. Seeing the bridge light up for Vivid from the comfort of my bed was a truly luxurious experience. The rooms are always spotless and well supplied. The cleaning staff clearly work with care, and are so friendly and helpful . One morning, I was late to breakfast, and the lovely barista was so kind. He made sure I got enough to eat and even offered to make me coffee, even though breakfast was finished for the day. The reception staff were so accommodating. One night, the vending machine glitched, and when we let the duty manager know, he sourced and delivered the drinks to our very door. On check in, the manager remembered me from last time, and we had a laugh about my previous visit, when he had carried my heavy suitcase down six flights of stairs. The fact that he remembered me out of thousands of guests, meant a lot to me. I’ve stayed at many hotels, across every tier of Accor, IHG and Marriott Bonvoy, and have never encountered such a genuine commitment to customer service. I never write reviews, but I’ve made an exception for these exceptional people and their exceptional service. Thank you. I’ll be back soon!

Cleaners in Hobnailed Boots crashing trolleys around at 5:00 AM. I was pissed off as a former Silver member being stuck in a room by the lift alcove. (321). I have received room upgrades at previous visits to Accor group hotels.

This was the worst hotel experience I've ever had. Firstly, the air conditioning in my room didn't work. Without it, the room was constantly stuffy. I had to keep the window open the whole visit for any kind of air flow. My door didn't close properly, and I had to really slam it to ensure it was even locked. During my entire stay I was in fear of my room not being locked. The buffet breakfast didn't cater to my dietary needs, and after being told multiple days in a row that it would be fixed, it still wasn't (thankfully I was able to get the breakfast charge fully refunded). The staff asked if I "had" to stick to this diet, to which I had to politely explain that being Gluten Intolerant is not a choice and actually a health condition. Also, on my third night the smoke alarm went off at midnight. There were no staff on the ground explaining the situation, and the guests had to work things out for ourselves. While I understand that a budget hotel means a budget experience, this was by far worse than what I had expected. I will never stay at this hotel again and will not recommend it to anyone I know.
