As a ALL Gold member, I was very excited to stay at the Grand Mercure for my first time in Sapporo but unfortunately I had to check out the next day. When I got into my room on Day 1, there was that musty smell that really bothered me but the worst was the temperature that was 26 C, with no temp control in the room nor the possibility to open the window. The staff was amazing providing me with an air purifier and a fan but that evening but the temperature kept on rising. I had a sleepless night and I checked out the next morning. So I gave a 5/10 for this reason, staff is 10/10 but room is a 0/10 when you cannot control the temperature.

The reception is huge, yet there is not one comfortable lounge or chair to sit in. There is a huge dining room, used for breakfast and limited hours in the afternoon for complimentary drinks. It was cold and wet so we would like to have eaten in the hotel at night, yet there is no dinner service. There are no shops and very few cafes nearby. Most hotels in Japan have washing machines, and or an onsen, gym / pool. This hotel has no facilities at all. There is a lot of vacant space in public areas that could be put to better use. The most disappointing stay I have ever had in an Accor hotel.

Free lounge snacks and drink is appreciated. No breakfast around the hotel
