We loved the design and style of the entire property including our room. Food was very good in all restaurants. The location is perfect for our kind of holiday. The adjacent golf courses are simply amazing and stunning. However, We think the hotel would benefit from an adults-only pool and pool area.

Poor service, not up to standard of a Fairmont hotel. We had repeated infestations of ants in the room. We had a rat in the outdoor space. Sewage smell in the room. Very slow to react to multiple complaints of all of these issues. Service at the bars / restaurants again not what you except for a 5*, daily at breakfast it was a lottery on what drinks would come out from our order, even getting water for the table we had occasions where no glasses were brought, only one single glass of water was given not for all the table, wrong coffees, forgetting juices. We also waited approximately 40 minutes for food at the pool bar despite ordering only a couple of small plates to share. While I appreciate that delays and occasional mistakes can happen at any hotel, the frequency of these issues throughout the stay made them difficult to dismiss as isolated incidents. We arranged a reservation through the concierge for a table at the beach club later that day. When we arrived, we were told that no reservation had been made. While there, we overheard other guests experiencing the same issue, which again suggested this was not an isolated mistake. We also emailed the hotel ahead of our stay multiple times to ask for a bed in the room for our 4 year old, when we arrived at 3am there was no bed made up.

Hotel is brandnew and very well decorated with luxury finish but a lot of the staff is not there yet... a lot of good guys but too many staff that are not well trained dont speak english and some particularly rude ones...
we were told at check in that our room were close to each other only to find out they were in 2 different buildings and the reception hosts had terrible attitude

The resort is beautiful, but our upgraded villa and the service fell below Fairmont standards. We faced several maintenance issues, received little follow-up and had to chase for promised extras. This was disappointing as we had upgraded for our 15th anniversary and my 40th birthday. Miguel later handled our complaint well, arranging repairs, dinner and a 50% reduction on the upgrade supplement. We appreciated the recovery, but these issues should have been prevented or managed without repeated chasing.

For Fairmont’s own survey, I’d give them more operational detail than the previous version, especially the late check-in, DND breach, and the fact that problems affected all three rooms. I’d keep the tone serious rather than sarcastic, because this is the version most likely to reach hotel and regional management.
Our five-night stay was extremely disappointing and fell far below the standard I expected from a Fairmont property. We arrived at 2:15 PM and did not receive our rooms until around 4 PM, an hour after the official check-in time. We had been given an unsolicited upgrade to sea-view rooms, but were not informed that these rooms were located considerably farther from the elevators and main areas of the hotel. Once we finally reached the rooms, all three had significant housekeeping problems. Room 321 had visibly dirty cups, plates and spoons, as well as hair underneath the tissue box. Room 322 had what appeared to be a used washcloth left in the sink, no hand towels, an empty body-lotion bottle, stained pillows and a long black hair inside the minibar refrigerator. Room 323 had visibly moldy fruit, a black banana and a trash can that had been emptied but clearly not cleaned.
When I tried to speak with reception about the condition of the rooms, the telephone operator told me reception was too busy to take my call, so I walked back to reception myself, where I found several receptionists apparently available. I explained the issues and specifically asked for room 322 to be re-cleaned after we left for dinner. Despite having the DND sign displayed, housekeeping was then sent to the room while I was still inside getting ready. Before leaving, I sent a written WhatsApp instruction stating that ONLY room 322 should be cleaned and that rooms 321 and 323 were DND. The hotel acknowledged this message. Despite that, room 321 was entered and fully serviced, personal belongings were moved and reorganized, and three necklaces were subsequently discovered missing. The hotel investigated for more than ten days but was unable to locate them. Meanwhile, room 322, which was the room we had actually asked to be re-cleaned, was still not properly serviced and basic items such as hand towels and body lotion remained missing.
Unfortunately, these were not isolated first-day issues. Throughout the stay we repeatedly struggled to have hand towels replenished, laundry bags were not returned and laundry instructions were ignored. Most concerning from a cleanliness perspective, we experienced what I can only describe as an ant infestation. Ants were not simply on the floors or walls. We found them inside cupboards, in towels and even in the bed sheets before going to sleep.
Food and beverage service was also disappointing. The late-night room-service menu was extremely limited, we were told modifications could not be made because the food was already prepared and reheated, and one of the few options was unavailable after we ordered. Breakfast felt surprisingly uninspiring for a new five-star resort in southern Spain, and service at the beach club was so inattentive that I repeatedly had to walk to the desk myself to place orders and even collect a bottle of water.
What ultimately disappointed us most was the complete lack of meaningful service recovery. These were substantial problems affecting three rooms, yet there was no proactive follow-up to check whether the issues had been resolved, no meaningful gesture to restore our confidence, and no acknowledgment of everything we had experienced even when we checked out. Eventually, we simply stopped complaining because we did not want to spend the rest of our holiday repeatedly contacting the hotel and chasing basic requests.
The property itself is genuinely beautiful, which makes this experience even more disappointing. I had been very excited to stay here, particularly because the hotel is relatively new and presents itself as a high-end Fairmont resort. Unfortunately, the gap between the quality of the physical property and the housekeeping, service, attention to detail and handling of our complaints was enormous. For a five-star hotel carrying the Fairmont name, the experience was frankly unacceptable.

Except Sara (the waitress at Faro) and the bartender at the beach club, and the drivers of the buggies, the service is horrible. The villa was dirty upon arrival, we were told the restaurant was open until 10:30 pm, when we got there, the waiter told us the kitchen was already closed. Luckily the manager was close by and allowed us to have dinner. At the beach club they told us they couldn’t serve us at the tables on the sand because they were short staffed. Yet, they did serve the table next to us. It took 4 times for us to check on our order and 2 hours later we got our food.

I spent 9 days at La Hacienda Costa del Sol with my family of 4 and the in-laws. We booked a 3-bedroom villa: very spacious, architecturally very well organized, and with very helpful own kitchen, private garden, private pool. The resort benefits of 3 well run restaurants, direct access to a beautiful beach with a great view of Gibraltar. A beautiful golf court is attached to the resort, and other sports facilities have recently been added in the resort (e.g. padel). The resort is within a secluded area Sotogrande is 15min drive away and has a wonderful view of Gibraltar and Morocco just a few miles across the sea. Staff was super helpful and also top management was consistently present helping clients and directing the staff (the General manager, the Head of F&B were seen daily).

My husband and I had the most fantastic stay at Fairmont celebrating his birthday. It was exactly the relaxing couple’s getaway we needed, and we couldn’t have been happier with our choice.
Our room was absolutely beautiful, with two balconies, one overlooking the sea and the other overlooking the pool. Waking up to those views was simply wonderful. Every member of staff we encountered was warm, attentive, and provided excellent service throughout our stay.
A special mention must go to Sarah, who was an intern working in Guest Relations. She was absolutely fantastic - so friendly, professional, and genuinely attentive to making sure guests had a wonderful experience. She really stood out and deserves recognition for the excellent job she is doing.

Beautiful hotel, nice facilities, very clean common areas. Bed very comfortable and very nice view that we could enjoy from many places. However, we were a bit surprised by the service of the hotel of such level. Had to struggle for 2 days to get a baby bottle warmer even though was promised way ahead before arrival that will have it by email and by phone . Then asked again 5 times during the first 24h and each time got a polite answer that they’ll bring it but nothing was brought. Zéro welcome amenities for the whole week, not even for a baby, not even a welcome note. Housekeeping wakes up at 8 am to clean the room, got turn down service only twice out of six nights. Dirty cleaning rag-t shirt left twice in one of our rooms. Very bad small comming out of the toilet almost every day. Sometimes it was so strong that would make me up at night. Even our names were complitely mixed up and my room was under the name of the person that doesn’t even exist.
The Front Desk team is nice. Big thanks to the girl that did our check-out. She actually helped me with the baby bottle warmer that made our stay so much easier

We had such a lovely stay at the Fairmont with our family. From the moment we arrived until the very end, the service was excellent. Everyone was so kind, welcoming and accommodating, and they really made us feel comfortable throughout our stay.
What stood out most was how family-friendly the hotel was. They created such a lovely environment for the kids while still making everything enjoyable and relaxing for the adults. There were so many great amenities, and the location was fantastic as well.
Honestly, everything was just perfect from start to finish. We had a wonderful experience and would definitely stay at the Fairmont again with our family.

Loved the pool, the breakfast, the nice cake to celebrate my birthday. The areas for improvement are: the speed of service (super slow at the pool restaurant, also, ordered a latte twice & after 50min, still none came out). The other less desirrable
Experience was the golf cart service to the beach, we had to wait a long time so clearly not staffed and equipped sufficiently. Lastly, we had dinner on the first night at El Faro, 240euros and very average taste : frozen lasagna, pasta without any sauce and order mix ups even after reviewing and aligning. Fairmont is usually synonym of excellence and hopefully, with these fixes, can live up to the name. Beautiful facility, breathless views and super comfortable rooms. We had a good time overall as a family!

We had a lovely stay overall and there is a lot to like about this hotel. The property itself is beautiful, the grounds are stunning and very well maintained, the golf course is beautiful, and our room was lovely, clean and comfortable. The staff are friendly and there are plenty of them, which makes the inconsistencies in service particularly surprising.
Our main issue was that, for a five-star hotel, the service was simply not consistent enough. There seems to be a real lack of follow-up and supervision. Staff are friendly and willing to help, but things are repeatedly missed and you often have to chase the same request several times.
For example, at breakfast, tea and coffee took at least 20 minutes to arrive each day, usually only arriving after we had finished our food. Despite asking several times, we repeatedly experienced the same issue.
The housekeeping was another major disappointment. On three separate days, we returned to our room at around 6pm to find that it still had not been cleaned, despite being out from 10am each day. Each time, we called reception and were apologised to and assured that it would be taken care of. We would then head out for a drink, return later, and find that the room still had not been cleaned. After repeatedly raising the issue over three different days, we eventually asked to speak to the General Manager, who thankfully resolved the problem for us.
We also had an issue with our final bill. Over £400 of additional charges had been added, which we had to carefully check ourselves. Reception then had to go back through their records and discovered that we had been incorrectly charged for three meals at the beach club that we had neither had nor signed for. Thankfully, this was corrected, and once again the reception staff apologised, but guests should not have to scrutinise their bill so carefully to identify such substantial errors.
The beach club was another example of the lack of follow-up. Most mornings there were no beach towels available, with towels sometimes not arriving until around 11:30am. There were different guests complaining about this on a regular basis, so you would expect the hotel to recognise the problem and resolve it. Unfortunately, the same issue continued throughout our stay.
The food itself was good, especially the breakfast and we loved the adults only area, but we found that a lot of dishes were very heavily drenched in olive oil. My wife was pregnant during our stay and found this particularly difficult. We had to repeatedly ask for dishes to be prepared with less oil, as on our first night she became so unwell that she ended up vomiting. This may simply be personal preference, but it would have been appreciated if our requests for less oil had been taken into account more consistently.
It is a real shame because the hotel itself is genuinely beautiful, the rooms and grounds are excellent, the golf course is fantastic, and the staff we encountered were consistently pleasant and friendly. However, friendliness alone isn't enough for a five-star experience. There are clearly plenty of staff, but better supervision, communication between departments and, most importantly, proper follow-up on guest requests are needed.
The hotel has all the ingredients to be exceptional, but the service currently falls short of the standard I would expect from a five-star property. I hope these issues can be addressed, as the hotel itself is beautiful and has enormous potential.

Strengths - seamless arrival, earlier check-in and upgrade. Stunningly designed hotel, gorgeous rooms, most comfy beds ever. Lovely food. Friendly staff (especially in the Spa).
Areas for improvement - our car keys couldn't be found temporarily and staff didn't seem convinced that we did actually add them over to the valet. We received a "are you sure?"call. Yes we were 100% sure and hey presto they turned up.
Communication via email during our stay. Restaurant by pool didn't reply to our reservation request. Our golf was booked for the wrong day after numerous toing and froing with the concierge. This came to light when we arrived at the golf club only to be told we should have turned up the day before on the Sunday even though I had written email confirmation of a Monday booking.
As Gold member, when we arrived at the hotel I requested late check out as we had a late flight. Clarification wasn't given despite me emailing reception. We went to reception on the day we left and was told we didn't have one but this wasn't communicated to us. Only at this stage did I learn there might have been a whatsapp. In the meantime access to our room had been blocked and housekeeping had to let us in.as it was past the standard check in time. Had clarification been given earlier, this could have been avoided.
Breakfast service posed challenges when particularly busy at the weekend and took some time to receive drinks orders.
Guests are allowed to reserve sunbeds all day and then not even turn up until the afternoon. This is not acceptable when busy and other guests are trying to find beds.

Absolutely beautiful property with breathtaking views. The breakfast is excellent, and one of the best and most convenient touches is the option to take a takeaway breakfast box for later - a simple idea that makes a big difference. Tip: go around 9h when there is less crowd.
The swimming pool is fantastic, and La Cala Beach Club is truly top level. All the staff are warm, welcoming, and always willing to help with every request.
A special thank you to the Hotel Manager, Carlos, who went above and beyond to make our stay as enjoyable as possible and handled every request in the best possible way.
If you're planning a peaceful and memorable vacation, I highly recommend choosing one of the villas with a private pool - absolutely worth it.
