Clean spacious room, well equipped. Staff smiling and helpful. Good bar menu. Pool is small but well maintained with relaxing spaces to sit. The restaurant is beautifully presented. The food was my only minor issue. The in room QR code did not match the menu in the restaurant, there were cocktails on 2 menus but priced differently for the same things, I ordered the fish and it looked like packaged frozen fish. My partners meal, club sandwich was lovely and the portions are very generous.

Staff very pleasant and helpful. Rooms with poor showers and new air cons that don't work

From the moment we arrived, the customer service was amazing. Everyone was so welcome and kind. The room was absolutely lovely, though there was no shelf in the shower for hygiene items to sit on, which was a bit weird, but otherwise the room was great. The kitchen staff as well were so sweet and lovely to deal with. 10/10 would stay again

Dear Sammi Thank you for taking the time to share such a lovely review following your stay with us at Mercure Newcastle. We truly appreciate your kind feedback and I will be sure to pass your comments on to our team. Thank you also for your feedback regarding the shower. I will share this with our maintenance team so they can look into possible improvements. We’re delighted to hear that you enjoyed your stay and hope to welcome you back again on your next visit to Newcastle. Warm regards Tahlia Assistant Manager

I am a long standing ACCOR member- familiar with the range of its hotels and their different levels. The Mercure Newcastle is identified as 4 star hotel- this is not the case. While the staff were all very pleasant, welcoming and helpful, the breakfast was good and room service (which I used on the first night of my two night stay) also fine, my room was very poor, as was the cleaning service. I was booked for two nights. On day two of my stay, the bed was made, but nothing else appeared to have been done. The coffee cup I had used on the first morning, was still sitting, dirty where I left it. Also a used glass in the bathroom. The toilet had not been cleaned. This was poor, but the main problem was the room itself. The lighting was atrocious. There was no overhead light in the room- only two dull lights on the wall on either side above the bed. There was no desk or suitable workspace for business travellers. The only option was to place my laptop on the bench above the fridge and work standing up; or a small round table, with two chairs in the corner of the room, with out lighting overhead and no/no plug nearby to plug in the laptop. I dragged that small table over the room, near to a plug, low down on the wall, under the tv and had to get down on my hands and knees to plug it in. There was no desk lamp, no standard lamp- and the lighting in the room was so bad, I had to take documents I needed to read, into the Bathroom- which WAS brightly lit. The room was also hot- and the air conditioning difficult to adjust. I could not get it lower. It appeared to be be firmly set on a temperature that was too high. I was in Newcastle for an international conference and several other of the delegates were staying at the same hotel. A number of them to whom I spoke on the first morning of our stay, said their rooms had also been uncomfortably hot and they could not adjust the air conditioning.
