I stayed for three nights with my partner. Even though I have status (which was never mentioned) we could only check in at exactly 3pm (actually it was about 15 minutes later) after a long transatlantic flight. Ok, that is the posted time. There was no welcome drink. the breakfast was very good; the staff were friendly but seemed stressed out, the location is great.

Mama Shelter Roma is a quirky hotel with playful interiors and with a killer location. Just 5 minutes’ walk from Cipro metro station which can take you to anywhere in Rome within 30 minutes. Very near to Vatican City: 10 minutes’ walk to Vatican Museum, and maybe 20 minutes to St Peters. And if you have heard of Pizza by Bonci, that's just 5 minutes’ walk from this hotel. The rooms were of decent size, a bit difficult to manage with luggage. And a ridiculously large sized 55" TV was hanging in the corner occupying a lot of space. You can kick it at night while turning around if you are not careful. Coming to the cons, Mama Shelter is stingy in providing any type of complimentary service. There were no disposable slippers in the room, and front desk informed the only option they have must be purchased at €8 a pair. As part of our Accor Plus welcome drink, they provided just one bottle of fruit juice. Even the economy hotels like Ibis offer one drink for each guest. And they were also the only hotel during our Italy trip, that didn't provide a room upgrade. Which is of course subject to availability, but combined with other observations, seemed more out of reluctance. Many of these could be how the brand operates, but it stood out from the hospitality we usually associate with Accor. All in all, a decent place to spend few nights in Rome. We will probably return just for the location.

We had a really enjoyable stay in Rome. Mama Shelter was a great base for exploring the Vatican and Prati neighbourhoods on foot and really close to the Metro for getting further afield. Room was great and we enjoyed the busy bar and restaurant. Only comment would be around service. The staff were friendly enough but not proactively helpful and service in the bar was hit and miss. For example my daughter spilt her drink in the bar while we were being served and no hope was offered to clean up. We had to find some napkins to mop up. We also found small details like no yogurt at breakfast one day and the lack of balls on the table football for our entire stay frustrating. Tiny details but they all add up!

The hotel had a funky appearance and room was well sized. Location is out of town in a suburban area but easy access as on Metro's door step. Rooms however did not have tea or coffee making facilities, no wine glasses or bottle opener. When I rang for glasses and opener to be brought up I was told by the front desk that they won't be brought up but to come down to grab them from the restaurant. I then went down to the restaurant was given the glasses but the waitress then came back from the bar to now say that the bottle has to be brought down to the bar for opening. Frustratingly I had to go back up to the room retrieve the bottle and go back down to the bar. Not experienced this in any hotel from decades of travelling. Found staff in the hotel and restaurant a bit lack lustre. Per another Platinum member of Accor in previous review the experience is way below that of other sites within the group. We did get an upgrade upon request. The welcome drink was one small bottle of juice between the two of us. For location and the disappointing experience I would not be staying here again.
