Not an Accor hotel

TripAdvisor rating 2.0/5

robert106119 Business - TripAdvisor review

This is not an Accor hotel! They do not recognise your status, you do not get a welcome drink, a welcome gift or an upgrade for your room. The whole staff is very unapologetic and barely speaks English. The hotel does not have a bar and only a very limited breakfast. Room was a bit dirty. Definitely not worth the high price, go with one of the cheaper options around, even as an Accor Gold or Platinum member.

Terrible

This hotel is not a 10 minute walk from the railway station, it took us 30 mins asking several people for directions. There are no directions on their web site from the railway station to the hotel. I emailed them twice asking for directions and never received a reply. At check their system was down and had to wait to be checked in. I asked what time the restaurant closed and was told 10.30pm. When I asked where the restaurant was they took me outside and pointed to the building next door which had some food outlets. There was no information in the room about the hotel or it's services. When I rang reception to ask something I was told that nobody spoke english and the girl put the phone down. This hotel is not suitable for western travellers and I am surprised that Accor puts it's name to this establishment. If this is the standard of other Mercure hotels I will be changing my hotel provider.

Ok... more or less

I stayed there b/c the company I work for is a three minutes walk away. There is no other reason to choose that hotel. There are better hotels closer to the train station. This is a part of the Mercure hotel chain - on paper. In practice, it felt just like any mid-range Chinese hotel, so don't let that Mercure name affect your choice. There is nothing European about that place. That said, it wasn't terrible. The room was small, but clean. The staff spoke adequate English. The internet was okay - somewhat misconfigured, so my pixel phone indicated no connection, but it did work. A/C clearly struggled to maintain 22C in the room. It was about 32C outside; on a hotter day, and Shanghai has plenty of these, the room is likely uncomfortable. Their own restaurant was being remodeled, so the breakfast was served in a noodles place next door. It was okay. If you do end up there: there are three decent restaurants in the mall next to the hotel, a Japanese one and two Chinese. There are a lot more choices close to the train station.

Very bad

The service of this hotel is very bad with very unpolite staff. The breakfast is based on bad coffee and cold fried eggs better to go outside. I was sleeping and someone chinese entered in my room yelling. They could not speak a single word of english. Me and my team will not come back here

Great Hotel, but out of the way from everything. Food and Breakfast was good. Not a large variety. Hotel is modern and clean. Rooms got hot, aircon didn't adjust but you can open the window. Only a few restaurants around the hotel, no shops other than a convenience store.
