For a hotel in this price bracket you'd expect a comfortable bed, and a light and sound proof room. Instead the bed was a concrete slab, the curtains let light in and you could hear every car that went past. The over powering potpourri smell as you entered the room reminded one of a trip to grandma's house. Carpet and decor was scratched and stained throughout. At least the breakfast was decent. Was told by staff I couldn't give them my accor # to get the nights credited on my account either. Won't be returning.

In my life very bad experience ,but your property very nice and awesome when iam staying this property iam asking mobile adapter they didnt give the adapter then ask the deposit .every small property they give the all accessories .and when iam went sleep one lady knock the door very disturbing

A nice stay amid faded grandeur

First time in Kazakhstan for business, and I was lucky enough to stay at the Rixos. If you’ve seen some of my other reviews, you’ll know I use ‘faded grandeur’ quite a lot. But I think that hits this place on the head. The hotel is big and imposing, not least because of the massive atrium you can see from the front door. The rooms are very spacious – my basic one had a good bed, working desk, side table and mini sofa, and the bath in the bathroom was both big and complete with air jets (yes, there was a shower as well). The hotel amenities are pretty good – a few shops scattered around, gym & swimming pool, and of course the conference facilities that we were there to use. And there was the expected ironing board and iron in the room (decent ones too). Almaty is a really different city – I think I’d like to go back again to be honest – but lots of things were easily within strolling distance. The whole thing is just a bit ‘weathered’ though. Some of the carpet needs a bit of TLC, all the side doors and back gate were cable-tied shut, etc. To be fair, we’d probably be talking serious money to give the place an overhaul. I’d definitely stay here again though.

Classed as a five-star hotel which it probably technically qualifies on facilities, but certainly doesn't on quality of experience. Stayed here for two weeks in September for a work trip in Almaty. Rooms are ok, beds comfortable, but TV channel choice extremely limited and decor tired and in need of refurbishment. Room cleaning was fairly random in terms of towel, mat, robe replacement after use, and maids kept confiscating keycards from the power slot. Main lobby is beautiful and pleasant environment to relax and eat. However, out of the three restaurants, two are permanently closed and only available for private functions which means you are down to one limited menu option. On the occasions we tried to eat dinner in the hotel, staff seemed disinterested and did not speak any English, so gave up and went out. This seems to be an own goal for the hotel in not capitalising on their facilities. All expenses had to be paid along the way, nothing could be charged to your room. This even included paying for the room up front and being asked whether we wanted to pay extra to build up credit for any expenses. This makes the guests feel more like criminals rather than being special which is what you are looking for from this grade of hotel. Would not stay at this hotel again next time in Almaty.

I had mix of disappoint situations during my stay at the hotel. There are several examples. It's a mess at the breakfast, staff screaming to each other and swearing or when I pointed to salt shaker was broken the waiter told me that you right, did literaly nothing and she went away. I asked to fix the door to the balcony (it was blocked for some reasons or broken) no one came to me. One day no one came to my room to make up it, when I asked why the lady raised her voice accused me of the this situation. I was shocked a little because I hung up the sign "please make up my room" when I was leaving the room and I didn't expect that the staff can screaming to a guest at five star hotel.
