Mama Shelter Prague 4 stars

Overall, my stay at Mama Shelter Prague was good, and the hotel definitely has many things going for it. The general atmosphere is stylish, playful, and visually appealing, with the kind of design that makes the hotel feel different from a standard chain property. The concept is fun, the public spaces are nicely put together, and there is a clear effort to create a relaxed, modern, lifestyle-hotel experience. However, while the stay was enjoyable overall, there were several details that made the experience feel less polished than it could have been. The first thing I noticed was the service. The staff were not rude, and nothing was necessarily wrong in a serious way, but they did not exactly seem ecstatic to be on shift. The overall impression was that the service could have been warmer, more welcoming, and more engaged. In a hotel with such a strong personality and branding, I would expect the hospitality to match that same level of energy. A smile, a little more enthusiasm, or simply a more proactive attitude would have made the arrival and general experience feel much better. The check-in process also felt a little behind the times. For a hotel that presents itself as modern, fun, and design-forward, I expected a smoother or more tech-friendly arrival experience. The absence of more modern check-in options made the process feel more traditional than expected. It would be nice to see some digital improvements, whether that means faster pre-arrival check-in, self-service elements, mobile options, or simply a more seamless and efficient system at reception. The room itself was comfortable and generally pleasant, but it was missing several key elements that I would normally expect in a standard room of this type. There were no slippers, no robes, no kettle, and no coffee maker. These may sound like small things individually, but together they make a difference. They are the kinds of details that help a hotel room feel more complete, especially for guests who want to relax properly without having to ask for basic extras. For a hotel with a lifestyle image and a relatively premium feel, these omissions stood out. Another area where the room felt less modern than expected was the in-room technology. The TV did not offer Netflix, YouTube, or any clear streaming options of any kind. In 2026, this feels like a missed opportunity, especially in a hotel that markets itself with such a contemporary and youthful identity. Many guests now expect to be able to stream their own content, cast from their phone, or at least access basic platforms like YouTube. Without that, the entertainment setup felt dated and not fully aligned with the otherwise modern image of the hotel. Another issue was the air conditioning. It was quite difficult to operate and not especially intuitive. A guest should not have to spend too much time trying to understand how to adjust the room temperature, especially after travelling or checking in late. Clearer instructions, a simpler control panel, or a more responsive system would improve the comfort of the room. The bathroom was mostly fine, but the overhead shower had poor water flow. It looked like it might need to be descaled, as the water did not come through as strongly or evenly as expected. This is another relatively small maintenance issue, but it affects the overall feeling of cleanliness and quality. A good shower is one of the most basic expectations in any hotel room, and it would be worth paying more attention to this. There were also welcome treats in the room, which was a nice idea in theory, but the execution could have been better. The cookies tasted stale, which immediately made them feel more like an afterthought than a thoughtful touch. The fruit bowl also did not work particularly well. The grapes looked more tired than I was, and grapes are not the best choice for a room-temperature fruit bowl. They can quickly lose their freshness and do not present very well after sitting out for too long. Something more suitable for room temperature, such as apples or citrus fruit, would probably make a much better impression. That being said, I do not want this review to sound overly negative. The stay was still good overall. The hotel has a strong identity, the design is enjoyable, and the general experience was pleasant. However, there is always space to improve, and in this case the improvements are mostly about attention to detail and modernization. Warmer service, better room amenities, easier climate control, improved shower maintenance, fresher welcome items, a more tech-friendly check-in process, and proper streaming options on the TV would make the experience feel much more complete. Mama Shelter Prague is a good hotel with a lot of potential, but a few details currently prevent it from feeling as polished as it could be. I would still consider staying again, but I would hope to see more consistency and a little more care in the small things that make a hotel stay feel truly comfortable and modern.

It was my second visit here (last time August 2024, which was a very good experience), and I felt the overall service has gone worse. Especially the quality of the breakfast was disappointing (industrial scrambled eggs, with a strange taste on day 2, cheese with no taste and plastic consistency, dry croissants) compared to any other Mama Shelter I have visited. The terrace is not as well maintained as it was. The terrace is actually an asset, where you could enjoy a breakfast coffee in the sun for example, but it wasn't not prepared by 10:30 in the morning and therefore not welcoming at all. I appreciate the location which is not in the middle of the touristic areas and enables nice walks to the castle or to the centre, and alternatively very well connected with several tram lines. Rooms are pretty and according to Mama Shelter standards.
