Rather old hotel but still acceptable. Breakfast was, as usually in the french Mercure Hotels, too average. The choice of the restaurant card was very limited. This may not be a problem if on the other hand the quality is on top. But unfortunatly, and the dinner was disappointing (dry chicken, almost no sauce, sweet potatoes fries being flabby, no crunch at all and totally oily).

The hotel was clean, safe, quiet, and comfortable. The breakfast was good and it was modern. It was located by the river and had plenty of parking. The hotel was recommended by a person who was presenting a wine tasting.

Nice hotel in an excellent and beautiful location. Friendly people at work. But, not exactly knowledgeable (for exemple on the phone sending clients to the wrong highway exit, or taking an inordinate amount of time to sign you in). The restaurant is of no interest whatsoever, especially in view of some excellent restaurants next door or in and around town. The beds are a true nightmare; so hard that I hardly slept at night. Had the impression I was sleeping on a cement floor. And had aches all over the next day. Nice terrasse.

We came for one night on 15 September at 6pm after a long, hot and tiring drive from Hyeres and intended to have a swim and dine at the hotel, then go to bed refreshed. Your website specifically draws attention to the swimming-pool, which influenced our choice of hotel. When we arrived and asked about it, the gentleman in charge of reception said it closed on 14 September, by local law. You had evidently known this when you accepted our booking but did not inform us. He directed us instead to the piscine municipale, where we would have to pay, and told us it would be open until 8pm. We took our towels and swimming costumes and walked to the pool. The sign on its door said it closed at 1.30 that day. So all this was disappointing and a waste of time. You either do not give sufficient discretionary powers to your receptionist, or he is lacking initiative, for he made no suggestion about compensating us or improving our stay after our disappointment. When we looked at the hotel restaurant menu as a couple who do not eat meat or chicken when away from home, we were astonished to find only two fish dishes on the list: tuna (a sea fish) and mahi-mahi (a tropical fish). You are the Mercure BORD-DE-SAONE! We had expected to enjoy something local. Where was the trout? or the sandre? or quenelles de brochet, a Maconnais staple? Whoever is in charge of provisioning has no imagination and perhaps no interest in a tourist's experience. We had to drive into the centre of town to find a decent restaurant (which fortunately we did - we can recommend Le Saint Laurent). The breakfast room staff (of whom there are not enough) were insufficiently attentive: I had to find someone to tell her that the water supply had ended and required replenishing, and the butter was almost finished. These are matters which should be under constant surveillance and be dealt with by staff without prompting. We would have liked hard-boiled eggs but there was no visible facility for this and no member of staff available to ask how to boil them. We wanted to use the internet but there was no wifi. In brief, this hotel shames your brand: it is supposed to be of Mercure standard but we have enjoyed better treatment in an Ibis Budget. Usually we recommend Accord hotels to our friends: we cannot advise anyone to stay at the Mercure Bord-de-Saone in Macon.

I have already sent a review which has not appeared on the website. We have used this hotel before and may do so again as it is a convenient position on our journeys from the U.K. to the south of France. This time our room was inadequate. There was no vision from the windows because of failure of the double glazing. There was limited light in the bathroom and the hand basin had no plug and faulty plumbing. This room should not have been in use. Not up to your promised standard standard.

We arrived after a long drive the corridor and our room had a strong odour the sink then emptied all over the bathroom floor I went and got the manager who Immeadiate lay recignised the strong smell and opened fire escape the sink I repaired but it failed twice more they arranged a plumber for next day no room change as they were full.considering the cost after a discount it was expensive and not enjoyable the campanile is better

Great location because we needed to stop during our travel; the staff is very kind and a bed for the baby was already ready when we arrived. Unfortunately the structure is old and dirty. If you love hygiene this is not the place for you.

Not as expected, having stayed at Mercure hotels many times before and the Novotel at Lens the night before I was very disappointed with this hotel. The only saving grace were the staff who were all excellent, helpful and attentive.

We were given a disabled room (we had booked a classic). We had a shower and the water did not drain well. We were given an alternative room in accordance with what we had booked - that room was noisy as some water system kept going off. Breakfast service was appalling - there had clearly been a number of guests who got to breakfast before us and used crockery and cutlery was still on nearly all of the tables that had been vacated. The staff member who was clearing the tables showed no urgency to clear the tables for other guests, and at least one had to request that a table be cleared. The breakfast items were not replenished quickly, if at all, e.g. there was next to no bacon, fruit bowls were almost empty. There was a paper tissue to hold bread - in other hotels we have experienced a quality linen cloth. The swimming pool looked as if it needed maintenance, and we probably would not have used if the weather had been good enough. The hotel looked as though it to needed maintenance, especially the blinds outside the dining room.

We stayed in the Mercure Macon Bord de Saone en route from Italy back to the UK. We booked 2 privilege rooms with breakfast, and requested interconnecting rooms. The hotel rooms were ok - although not interconnecting they were next to each other. Providing a Nespresso machine was a nice touch. However, (i) the pullout bed was very sparsely made up (a thin single sheet over the bare mattress, no duvet, just a utilitarian brown scratchy blanket), (ii) the room looked tired and dated and needed some attention eg the curtains had partially come off their rails, and (iii) the shower was blocked and nearly overflowed when we used it. The breakfast was very very poor - no fresh fruit, and despite the restaurant only being half full they had run out of bowls, fresh cups, and half of the food eg scrambled eggs, bacon, croissants had run out. The Nespresso machine was out of water. We asked the waiters to fill up the machine, provide bowls etc - which they did - but just brought out one bowl eg not very helpful for the other guests who also could not have any cereal! They looked as if they were either very inexperienced or hungover, and certainly were not at all attentive. Also, the restaurant had a self serve station for cooking eggs in metal pans over a hot plate. But there were no oven gloves or protective items so guests were burning their hands when they tried to take an egg off the hotplate. I have stayed in many Accor hotels and mostly am satisfied - but overall I regret booking this one, and certainly would not stay here again.

Every year for the last five years I have driven from London for three weeks climbing in the Alps and have stayed at the hotel on both my southbound trip and, three weeks later, on my return north. I am fond of this hotel. It has comfortable rooms and a nice pool area. Ideal for chilling after a day on the road. However the rest of the hotel's facilities are really quite basic and it is difficult to regard it as truly "four star" as it is advertised. The interior bar area lacks any atmosphere and the restaurant has the rather spartan feel of a university canteen. There is only one rather slow lift covering all the floors. The rooms are comfortable but are linked by corridors that are dark and uninviting. And on this occasion all three pillows on my bed were lumpy and uncomfortable, as if the synthetic filling had hardened into lumps. I shall return to the hotel because for my purposes its positive features outweigh the negatives but the charms of the place should not be over-sold.

Air con in bedroom not up to task of cooling room. Food good and good VFM although staff very inexperienced. Pool safety lock broken! Pool water also murky and has poor colour. The pool needs a thorough clean and the water system overhauled. Stylish. Would stay again.
