ibis Styles Brest Centre Port Hotel 3 stars

Overall nice rooms and breakfast. Rooms are more spacious than most European hotels I have stayed other than Hilton properties. Nice towels. WiFi connections were not very good. Can't reliably be able to conduct computer based meetings for business (Skype, Webex, ...) Even tried going into the lobby for medium bandwidth applications (no video) and they operated sporadically (Sometimes ok, sometimes very slow). Tried to install a OUI app to my phone and it would not download file. Front desk personnel were not able to help. They stated that their system was operating okay.

As a frequent guest to this hotel, I appreciate the constant high level from check-in to departure. Staff is always ready to help whether to book a taxi for early morning departure or with minor problems with hotel printer. Good breakfast.

On checking in, late in the evening, the receptionist spoke little to no English, but I am fortunate in that I understand some French. He issued us with our room cards and also (proudly) the WiFi password - ILOVEBREST. We had a quick drink at the bar and then went to our rooms. Neither room key card worked. My colleague went back to reception and, on testing, it was found that one card had not been registered and the other was faulty so could not even be coded - obviously whoever set up the room cards did not check the system properly. My colleague returned to our floor and we tried to enter the rooms. Again one of the cards would not operate. He returned for yet another key card. When opening his room, with the card, the lock activated, but the door was still locked - it took 6 attempts before the lock could be operated. This happened every time he left and went to re-enter his room. On viewing the rooms they were found to be dirty - cleaning was obviously just a 'wipe over'. The shower was extremely narrow due to the intrusion of the mixer unit being on the side of the narrowest point - whereas the hand basin area was huge. The shower head had to be raised on the rail - to accommodate me being 1.85m tall - and the hose, from the mixer, then angles across the cubicle to such an extent that it is difficult to stand directly under the shower stream. Very stupid design! The toilet was a separate space with no hand washing facility - so I cannot imagine how many dirty hands touched the door handle before going into the shower / hand basin area to wash their hands - if they even bothered? After being 'proudly' given the WiFi password - at check in - we found that the WiFi was not operating. I phoned reception and the same person said he knew it was not working, but could not correct it - so why issue the password? Probably because we had paid for WiFi as an additional charge!!!! The breakfast was a diabolical small offering - which for a gluten intolerant person, would mean nothing at all to eat, as it was only bread and cakes! No cheese or cold meats and boil your own eggs. The food was a complete joke!
