This is my first time in Thailand with my wife, but it certainly won't be our last. For our 15th wedding anniversary, we chose the recommended Sofitel Hotel and we are absolutely delighted. The service is wonderful, the rooms are spacious, and the breakfasts are irresistible. On the very first day, they prepared special treats for us at breakfast and in our room to celebrate our anniversary. The room amenities are perfect - nothing is missing. The location is right on the beach (and with the largest hotel swimming pool in Thailand) and very close to local shops and eateries. The larger town of Ao Nang is about 10-15 minutes away by car. In the restaurant, we were looked after by Jinny (a charming manager), while the afternoon Muay Thai lessons were taught by the excellent instructors Tawee, Mee and Aum. If you want to train under the guidance of experienced coaches, the ones at this hotel really know their stuff. I recommend this hotel to anyone as a great base if you care about the standard of the rooms. Here, you can feel the luxury and 5* quality at every turn.

We had a lovely 7 day stay at the hotel. Check in was quick and efficient. Our superior room was large, well equipped and very clean.The breakfast buffet choices were varied and plentiful. Staff in the Club Lounge were amazing. Luke took care of us most days and was very efficient and friendly. The pool area was huge. Lots of sunbeds and cabanas. It was clean and well maintained. Beautiful landscaping around the whole hotel. A beautiful, relaxing place to stay in Krabi!

Our stay at Sofitel Krabi was wonderful. Lukwha was memorable, her knowledge of the property and the surrounds was enlightening and also her English language skills were excellent. She also gave the right amount of information to enhance the guest experience. Luke was also a great server, so friendly and just the right amount of chit chat to not interfere with the guest experience. He was also great over the stay because we built a rapport with him - and it was so nice over the stay as we felt special with his knowledge of our preferences etc.

I’m still not sure how I completely feel about our experience at this hotel. We booked this holiday for our 25th Wedding anniversary. We did 5 nights in Khao lak in a 4 star hotel - and unfortunately for Sofitel this hotel was fabulous- our room was beautiful! So we were constantly comparing our stay to Khao Lak. We then did 3 days at elephant hills and Sofitel was meant to be the luxurious stay. On arrival the reception area was beautiful- the greeting was lovely so we set off well. We were shown to our room 142 and our accommodation was nice but basic- not what I usually experience at a 5 star hotel. Also disappointingly- the patio was facing north - I always like to sit in the sun - be it morning or evening - and we weren’t facing the right way for that. We were facing the golf course and my husband plays a lot of golf so the view was nice for him. I had booked the Italian restaurant for our “special anniversary celebration” on our first evening. We had already viewed the menu and decided what we were having. We arrived, extremely attentive staff - the vibe was “posh” and we like quality, luxury but also relaxed- there was no informal vibe. We wanted small plates to start tapas style then the sea bass to share- we were informed the seabass wasn’t available after ordering. We were both so disappointed- the staff couldn’t of been more apologetic - my husband opted for a pizza - I had the beef - you could get a better pizza from our local takeaway and my beef was ok but the accompaniments was literally 1 skinny carrot and 6 gnocchi - the wine was lovely - but we paid £120 for a very average meal, they made an effort with a sign on our table saying happy anniversary and provided a cake with anniversary on which was a lovely gesture. We couldn’t fault the waiting on staff. The following morning we went for breakfast- sign saying wait to be seated - which we did for 5 long minutes - we decided to just sit down and then the staff looked at us like we had done something wrong! We ordered coffee - we like our coffee and ordering a black coffee with hot milk proved difficult! Each coffee was done differently! The breakfast selection was fantastic and a wonderful variety of food, could not fault the breakfast. But staff just looked miserable, didn’t smile and weren’t attentive - plates piled up on our table. We just said to each other give them another chance - it’s the first day - 2nd day was the same. 3rd day we were greeted with a smile, no waits at the door, shown to a table coffee served with a smile! Eureka! I told the manager we had been disappointed with service but today was a really good day! ( I shouldn’t have to compliment a 5 star hotel as encouragement!) the gardens are beautiful- the gardeners work so hard all day. We found most staff to be almost to scared to be friendly -(some did smile and were more welcoming) however, the atmosphere was corporate almost trying to be elitist -we prefer relaxed, informal chic - it shouldn’t be effortful. Another major issue was every night about 11.45-1.30am one of our neighbours - it sounded like moving furniture, running, knocking on doors- I complained after the 2nd night - duty manager appeared disinterested and told me to call if it happened again - 3rd night I just wanted the noise to stop and not have to get out of bed - but they were so loud I did call the duty manager - they told me to call earlier next time. 4th night they did make the noises but were an awful lot quieter. I wasn’t impressed with the duty managers handling of the situation but I did start to warm up to the hotel - staff became friendlier - then I had a medical emergency- it could only happen to me! Snorkling on the beach - please learn from my mistake! Low tide if in the water try to shuffle your feet - apparently at low tide stingrays will come into the low tide ( it is a very rocky beach) I stood on one! I was so lucky a local taxi guy must have been watching from the road - he saw me struggling (I didn’t know what had happened just that I was in excruciating pain) he rushed down to me knew it was a stingray immediately- he got Sofitel’s security guard down - my husband said they radioed/called twice for a car to take me to hospital and the response was after waiting for what seemed like forever - they didn’t have one - then waited for a duty manager who never came down - the taxi driver was fantastic - he told me to get in his car - he drove with purpose to get me to hospital- and the care I received puts our NHS to Shame. Afterwards the hotel couldn’t have been more helpful provided me with a wheelchair - we were no longer invisible and they spoke to us and checked in that we were ok. The security guard from the hotel was great as well - both he and the taxi driver waited for me at hospital, the hotel also had an onsite nurse who checked in with me afterwards. It’s a difficult one when thinking would I return? Maybe but I’m more likely to try Dusit Thani next time - just to compare.

Best hotel to stay at while in Krabi

We booked a five night stay at this hotel. Our experience was just superb. Located on the beach one can go for a dip in the sea from 07.00 hours to 19.00 hours . The hotel too is sprawling and is situated well away from the main town of Krabi which is ideal . If one would like to go out to Ao Nang it is not too far, just 20 minutes away by cab. From the very moment we arrived we were given a concise briefing of does and donts with all activities and facilities available at the hotel. The rooms are spotlessly clean and floors in room and toilet shine. The breakfast too is very elaborate and will suit any tourist. The range of food offered are fruits / fruit salads / breads / preserves / fruit juices / health drinks / pastries of numerous varieties/ bread pudding / indian / chinese / continental / oriental / and the list goes on and on. The staff are very polite and humble. Their service too is always with a smile and always willing to help to make one comfortable. The swimming pool is the largest in the whole of Thailand and is lovely swimming in. Thos who book the suite rooms get special treatment as well as they have special amenities in the club room . Basically one is treated specially. The whole ambience of the hotel is very good and you can just have a good holiday.The magpie robin's call can be heard from 04.00 hrs adn through the day. Sparrows also come to feast with you while at the breakfast table. Such a lovely feeling . The price is very reasonable for the services and food served. Sofitel is the best place to go to if one wants to visit Thailand.
