The location is convenient because of the public transport nearby. For families with small kids this is a plus in my opinion. The staff was really friendly and helpfull too. The lady (forgot her name) gave us some good tips for food and things to for small kids. There is also a small area in front off the reception for kids to play. There is a gaming console and building toys. The only two things that I think off to give as feedback are the noises in the room. I could hear the traffic.The other thing was a smell in our room upon arrival. It smelled musty. When you put on the aircondition and come back in a hour or so, the smell is gone.

I had a very pleasant three-night stay at Novotel Hamburg Alster. I was in Hamburg for a workout weekend with activities at several locations, and the hotel was a great base thanks to the easy U-Bahn and S-Bahn connections and its proximity to the city centre. The staff were very welcoming and friendly, breakfast was excellent, and the clean wellness area was a really nice bonus after a day of training. There were a couple of things that could be improved. The corridors can be quite noisy, and I could clearly hear doors slamming from my room. Housekeeping could also be a little more attentive: I found a small metal razor-blade holder from a previous guest on the coffee table, which had apparently been mistaken for an accessory. Overall, though, a good experience. I would happily stay here again.

While the hotel is clean and follows Accor Novotel standards across Europe, the staff is most unfriendliest across other the continent. They do not smile, look like any one asking a question is offending them personally. There is no fridge in room, coffee & tea sachets are not refilled ever, and of course asking the staff for a creamer sachet only leads to me feeling like I asked for a golden egg, even after paying more than 1000€ for the stay! Also many many guests wondered where they can refill their glass water bottles. Other Novotels provide a water dispenser on every floor. Also no body lotion in rooms, and no, asking such unfriendly staff is not an option: too scared of being insulted again.

We were generally satisfied with our stay at Novotel Hamburg. However, the room has a few downsides. The soundproofing is poor; when nearby room doors close automatically, the slam is very loud and vibrates through the walls and bed. Also, there was no mini-fridge in the room (unlike Novotel Berlin). Lastly, the lighting controls are poorly designed—it is almost an "all or nothing" system, making it hard to adjust the brightness.

Nice stay with our 2 children 8 and 13. Very friendly staff. Our kids got a free ice cream from reception. Parked in the hotel basement and paid for two days. On departure we wanted to see more of Hamburg, and we could leave the car in basement for free. Breakfast restaurant was very busy, but they quickly found a table for us. Disadvantage: I hate the door to toilet is not completely tight

Nice hotel, well located near the city center. Breakfast buffet was a bit chaotic and always a long wait by the pancakes, but a good buffet. There’s a minibar in the room, but you can not use it if you have a standard room, as they cannot turn it on.
