To stay @ Mercure City Hamburg is always a great experience.

We booked a room with two beds, and only had one double bed. The duvet for this bed was too small, not enough for two people and only one was provided. A bottle opener was also not provided for the items in the included mini bar. The mini bar was not replenished daily and we had to ask for more coffee. I think the hotel needs to spend more time refining their attention to detail. From this visit, I wouldn't be inclined to stay in a Mercure hotel again. I've stayed in much better and cheaper hotels that value their guests more.

The staff at the hotel was wonderful. The location is good, a short-ish walk to public transport. Free Sauna in the hotel a nice bonus. However, there are some other issues that would keep me from staying there again. For one thing, the in-room coffee is not free. It is a tassimo machine and each pod costs one Euro, and the milk comes in a pod, so if you want a good sized cup it’s going to cost 2-3 Euro. Certainly not breaking the bank, but I’ve never had to pay for in room coffee so it just irritated me. The breakfast is quite expensive at 20€ per adult and held that per child. We chose not to pay that so I can’t speak to the quality. The facilities could use some work. We stayed in two rooms because the one I originally booked was too small for our family of four. The great staff were happy to move us to a larger room and very accommodating when we forgot items in the original room. In the first room, we were in two full sized beds, one a sofa bed, the other a regular, but the mattress wasn’t great on our bed. Ironically, I think the sofa bed was more comfortable. The air conditioning is basically useless. Not usually a big deal in Hamburg, but if you’ll be there in the Summer and you’re counting on AC, don’t stay here. Also, in the second, much larger room the AC didn’t work at all, which wasn’t a big deal because it wasn’t hot and we had a lot of windows. However, there is a lot of traffic and construction noise, and bugs from the canal so you won’t want to leave the windows open during the night. In investigating the air conditioning I looked into one of the vents and it was filthy on the inside. We all woke up congested and with headaches after our first night in the room with the functioning (although basically useless) AC, and that would explain why. We felt fine after moving rooms. The shower in the second room had a rainfall shower head built into the ceiling in addition to the standard European removable shower head. It was lovely, but it was not installed properly because the paint around the rainfall was brown and bubbled and the water seeped out from all around it. I was mildly concerned that it was going to fall on my head, but it still made for a glorious shower. The fan in the bathroom doesn’t work though so after the glorious shower, the bathroom is basically a mini sauna. There are generous free toiletries and the bathroom was a lot more utilitarian other hotel bathrooms I’ve seen, which are essentially just designed just for looks. Overall, not bad, but not ideal either.

As an Accor member who regularly visits different hotels across the chain I was very disappointed to stay in a hotel without functioning air conditioning. In a city that can get very hot, this is really not acceptable and my family couldn’t sleep for the night.

Good hotel facilities close to main transit roads. I liked the freight cargo themed rooms; very fitting for a port city! Except for a few individuals, the hotel staff unfortunately mainly acted like they didn't give a f*ck. Technically they did not do or say anything wrong, but they didn't give a welcoming experience either. Our complaints about malfunctioning ventilation in the room, for instance, where met with an indifferent 'I'm sorry' without further action. We really enjoyed the breakfast, though, so I guess if you don't need too many staff interactions this is a great place to stay!

The room was very spacious, it was in fact a junior suite, very modern and nicely decorated. Big display TV in the bedroom. Breakfast was better than in most Mercure hotels, very complete and fresh .

Front desk team is helpful, hotel rooms well equipped.
