We received a warm welcome and were immediately made to feel at home. There was one member of staff from the North East of England who spoke fluent French and was able to help with any questions we had. The city of Troyes is lovely and this hotel is in a great location within easy walking distance of the main part of the town. The parking at the hotel is easy to access with spaces wide enough for modern cars (not always the case in France) although this does need to be booked in advance. Our room was comfortable and well appointed and we would certainly stay here again. Thank you to all the staff at the Mercure, Troyes.

As always the staff were great and very accommodating. If the room was better, like our previous stays, this would be a 10. The room smelled like cigarettes covered up with cheap perfume, which meant we had to open the window on a very hot day making the room smell less but much warmer. The bath filled with water when the shower was running and the toilet had brown stains. We arrived late after a long drive so didn't have the energy to get the room changed for a single night, before leaving early in the morning. We stayed at the same Mercure a week earlier and had a great room so hopefully this is a one off.

There are some reviews on here which in my opinion are contrary to our experience of La Licorne which we found to be excellent. Our first impression as we drove in was of a very well kept hotel with stunning architecture and positioned in an excellent location from where to enjoy the beautiful medieval city of Troyes. Our room was 007 on the ground floor and I have to say what a stunning room this is. It has a secret bathroom which was stunningly designed and equipped with plenty of shower gel and shampoo, big fluffy towels and a magnificent walk in shower area. The bedroom itself was equally stunning with high ceilings and elegantly furnished to a very high standard. Good tea and coffee making facilities. We requested fresh milk which arrived in a matter of minutes. Our bags were delivered to our room also within minutes. We ate at a restaurant within a 10 minute walk and enjoyed the stroll both in to the city and back to the hotel. Did not feel at any point unsafe. On on return we enjoyed a couple of drinks in the bar area, again with attentive service. We enjoyed a couple of hours in the spa the next morning, again with seamless service. If you get time, a trip to the spa is definitely worth a visit. All of the staff we encountered at the hotel were friendly and welcoming, but one member of staff stood out to us because of his elevated service. If management are reading this this guy needs to be promoted into management - he is the right material! From the moment we arrived Thierry (parking valet) was both extremely friendly and nothing was too much trouble. His English is excellent and he has a brilliant sense of humour. But, what was the most memorable to us was his unassuming manner and pursuit of old style service which sadly these days is lacking in a lot of hospitality. 5 stars to Thierry!!

Attentive service included advance email with clear help on parking. Staff helped readily when I had a problem with my car re-charging cable stuck in the charging unit (special shout-out to Arnaud who was calm and persistent even late at night). Hotel easily reachable by car, then only a short walk to the attractive town center. Very nice breakfast too. Thanks.
