The room did not seemed to be cleaned, a glass with what appeared to be some juice was still there, the furniture was sticky.. cheap but not advisable

Dear Team, We stayed at the IBIS BUDGET in Houdemont, Lorraine, France for one night, 26th December 2025 room 330 third floor with a mezzanine. We stay here fairly regularly and don’t usually have any issues. My 13 year old son slept upstairs in the bed closest to the mezzanine wooden balcony. During this stay, he ended up with a thin piece of metal, from the bed frame, piercing and going quite deep into his ankle, so much so that the whole of it was almost fully into his flesh and snapped off…. He pulled it out and did bleed. I do travel with a first aid kit, so was able to clean it and dress it with a plaster. I reported this to the reception and although they apologised I feel as if the seriousness of this incident was lost in translation. This could have gone into an eye etc. We didn’t bring anything into the room with any metal like this, so can assure you it wasn’t from us and my son says the metal came from the bedframe, like a staple or splinter of metal to keep fabric in place which he caught himself on. Firstly; The staff are lovely; Very friendly, polite and accommodating. They deserve to work in a nicer hotel because they are so lovely and good at their job. We needed a budget hotel for a family road trip stop over so weren’t expecting much of course; We have stayed in budget hotels for the same reason and they have always been fine in terms of cleanliness, safety etc… We arrived and the place wasn’t in a nice location, generally surrounded by run down buildings and the windows of the frontage had been smashed; I’m assuming indicating possibly a recent break in? Straight away did not feel safe! Overall the hotel was dirty and in need of repair and basic renovation; everything looked worn and tired and smelly. The hotel room was the final straw; extremely dirty and the bathroom smelt so badly of raw sewerage; the smell was unbearable; I am not exaggerating! It made you feel sick straight away, and the smell seeped in to the bedroom area… You couldn’t ignore how bad it was! There is no way we could settle and feel comfortable there… We made the decision that we could not stay there; We did not feel comfortable as a family in terms of safety and our health, so decided to check out immediately and requested a refund. It was one of those where it looks a lot better in the online pictures than in real life! It shocked me how bad it was… The receptionist was lovely and sent me the details on email how to obtain a refund and seemed very understanding…
