The entire place smelt musty from the moment we stepped inside, room was seriously outdated and felt very ‘cheap’ bathroom was tiny and old. Bed linen was never changed the entire trip. Carpets were dirty and not vacuumed under the bed, my 16month old found an old medicine tablet on the floor thankfully we saw this before he put it in his mouth. Pool was freezing cold and there were dirty pool towels and glasses left laying around all night and into the next day. Buffet breakfast was very average and nil rubbish bins throughout the hotel. Didn’t get any service at the bar even after ringing the bell. Best thing was the incredibly nice front reception staff. Really disappointed, I always thought the Novotel was an upmarket nice hotel. This experience definitely proved me wrong.

One lift was out of service for whole stay and the only other lift was randomly out of service which required guests to use stairs. Room had musty smell and cupboard door was broken. The food at breakfast was fresh and good variety. I will not stay at this hotel again unless the rooms get full refurb.

Unfortunately, our stay at Novotel Darwin CBD was disappointing. There were certainly some positives. The hotel is in a good location, the staff we dealt with were friendly, and our room was large, clean and comfortable, with a very comfortable bed. However, the condition of the hotel itself was a major concern. One of the two elevators was completely out of service for our stay. The remaining elevator did not inspire a lot of confidence either — it was very shaky, made some concerning noises and was extremely slow. One morning I waited around 10 minutes for it before giving up and taking the emergency stairs, only to discover the elevator appeared to be stuck on the ground floor. I spoke with several other guests who had experienced similar problems. On Level 5 there was also extensive scaffolding apparently supporting part of the roof/ceiling. This made sections of the hallway so narrow that two people could not comfortably pass each other. Between the scaffolding and the unreliable elevator situation, the hotel certainly didn't feel like it was operating at the standard I would expect from a Novotel. Breakfast was another disappointment. The buffet had limited options and the quality was mediocre at best. I arrived right on opening at 6:30am one morning and the bacon already tasted as though it had been sitting there for hours. The fruit selection consisted of watermelon, rockmelon and honeydew and was rarely replenished. The croissants were rock hard, the other pastries were very average, and I wasn't offered tea or coffee. The friendly staff, comfortable bed and good location were appreciated, but unfortunately they weren't enough to make up for the condition of the hotel, the elevator problems and the poor breakfast. This property is in serious need of attention and, based on our experience, I wouldn't choose to stay here again.

For the price, the accommodation is very tired. There is only one working lift (and this appears to have been the case for a while looking at other reviews). I found two cockroaches in my bed one night. There was sand outside my door in the corridor for several days, nobody vacuumed and it was still there when I checked out. Even though the location is good, the staff are nice, and the restaurant pretty good, I wouldn't stay here agian.

Right on The Esplanade, the Novotel Darwin had everything we needed, and then some. Staff were lovely, room was clean, well located, secure parking next door, and the breakfast was very good. Yes, it’s older in style, and needs an upgrade, but has its own charm, and we would stay there again without hesitation.

Unfortunately one lift was broken and the other lift was very clunky and extremely slow. The breakfast buffet had good choices but the food that was meant to be heated was not very warm.

Had a great stay, hotel a little tired in areas but can see that you are working through the refurbishments. I was fortunate enough to have a refurbished room and was lovely. Although one thing to bring to your attention would be there is no powerpoint in the bathroom other than a shaver point. This was odd considering there was a hairdryer that was on offer to utilise. Very minor issue for me as just utilised the point at the mini bar area. I know it was peak season also for you and never had to wait long for drinks or food and can not complain, your atrium area is amazing. The only other advice i would give is to ensure all parties at front desk are aware of what can and cant authorised on given days/times etc. We were a party of three and had requested a late check out in one room as we were not flying out till 3:30pm. We had intially asked at check in and were advised to check on day we were checking out, on check out day we asked at reception at 7:15am and were advised to ask the shift that was incoming. On our return back to reception at 9:30ish we were part way through the request with a staff member whom was advising that they had no one checking in so it shouldnt be a problem but then this staff member was over riden by, whom I presume is her superior, he said no not available sorry as we are at full capacity. I did reiterate that we were willing to pay and wasnt expecting it for free. I absolutely understand if it wasnt available but it was just the awkward situation the superior had then put this staff member in, i could see she felt uneasy. We had no issues with hanging in the beautiful atrium for the rest of the day to work but again no powerpoints for plugging in laptops etc. around the area. This will certainly not prevent me from staying there again. It was a great stay, clean, tidy and comfortable.

The room was comfortable, clean and well service at all times. The food and drinks were at a high standard and the staff were always very friendly, helpful and eager to assist with any queries. The pool was perfect and their was always towels available to use. The only issue during our stay was only one lift working during the time and one morning no lifts were available which we had to climb the steps once. However it was repaired quickly that morning and again one lift was available.
