With work, I am a weekly visitor to Darwin and usually stay at Novotel Darwin CBD, which is another AHG property. However, due to rates being a little inflated this week I thought I would try the Mantra Pandanas which comes with mixed reviews. Despite a loud, foul mouthed argument taking place between presumably residents and moving staff in the lobby, we were met with courteous staff and an apparent room upgrade, which was pleasant and some complimentary amenities due to my Accor Platinum status. We were informed the pool was temporarily under renovation, however after talking with residents who had been in the building a long time, this has been more than a temporary situation. The room seemed reasonably clean and modern with a good kitchenette and laundry which was great. The bed however was as uncomfortable as I have ever had at an AHG property and only two small pillows were provided. A request for more pillows was never fulfilled from reception staff. Breakfast on morning one, despite being very well presented, lacked quality in comparison to Mantra's Novotel and Mecure counterparts. There were two toasters on display, but were not functioning. This was brought forward to the staff on counter who informed me that only one slot on the second toaster was working. I tried my luck with this, and after 30 seconds of toasting, was met with a large scary flash and sparks. I immediately informed staff who unlpugged toaster but refused to remove them. Terrible to note, on second morning the toasters were back plugged in and not working. When brought up with the same staff member was met with a white lie of "The sparks were caused by another issue in the hotel, not the toaster'. The second staff member was more responsive to the situation and once again unplugged the toasters and apologised for the staff member being dishonest. On the second night at approximately 5am, we were awoken by fire alarms. This was accompanied by an announcement not to evacuate, but to await further direction. Eventually, there was another announcement saying no need to evacuate so we went back to bed, only to be met with another alarm a short time later saying we should evacuate. We understand that fire alarms can be part of spending time in hotels, but after speaking with resident's downstairs, apparently the alarms are semi regular which is not a great look. I would not like to see how well the fire panels, alarms and staff work in an actual emergency. Finally, upon check-out, we were met with a fee for parking. When we checked in it was asked if we had a vehicle and I said we are happy to park on the street, as we do when at Novotel. The receptionist said they can provide secure undercover parking, so we accepted under the assumption this was complimentary. It was disappointing to hear there was in-fact a $40 fee (for two nights) and we feel this should be stated upon check-in. To receptions credit, they waived the fee when I informed them of the mix-up. I will also confirm the parking WAS very secure and convenient for those who are willing to pay the fee. All in all I feel Mantra Pandanas, despite it's great potential, misses the mark on service and quality. The apparent lack of concerns around safety, the overall comfort and poor communication of staff falls means the hotel falls well below the bar in comparison to other AHG properties in the Darwin area. At this stage, I'm not sure I would try my luck at Pandanas again even if other AHG properties are unavailable.

NO POOL AT THIS HOTEL.

Do not be fooled by all the photos - the pools shut for seemingly endless construction, though still advertised. False advertising, breach of contract terms and consumer guarantees. Tried to contact the hotel (there's no email) and got no where with my enquiries on the phone regarding a refund. Google Reviews are deactivated - this is all so obviously by design. Immediately after paying look forward to an email saying the pool is unavailable during your stay and the place is going to be a building site with loud tools in use. They have disabled their Google Reviews in an attempt to cover up this scam. The shady & down right fraudulent manner in which Mantra Pandanus Darwin conducts it's business is laughable. Happy now Terrence? See pictures.

I requested specifically for an early check-in while doing the booking, my request was denied, one of the staff was a bit rude when asking general information about the hotel and location, I was pretty new in darwin, receptionist girl was lovely and helpful manager was awful

We were upgraded to a 1 bed apartment on the top floor, great views and clean. The bed was terrible and well overdue for replacement but the rest of the apartment was good. We were very disappointed that the pool was closed and the restaurant was also closed for dinner. The breakfast was very nice as were all the staff in the restaurant and hotel.
