Room disgusting, parking fees ridiculous

This stay at the Mercure was vastly different to my last, unfortunately this time I had a negative experience due to the lack of cleanliness of the room and the assistant manager being non-accomodating. First of all, the room was an absolute mess, the walls were filthy and looked like they were covered in spit and dirty footprints from the previous family staying in the room. There was a massive amount of rubbish underneath the bed(s) that looked like it had been swept under without a care in the world. There was a general power outlet that was hanging off the wall outside the balcony with exposed wiring that would have been easily accessible to a young child, and if someone had touched the wiring within, there is a high chance of 240 volts running through them and potentially death, this is not an exaggeration and I can provide photo evidence of this and my other claims. It took the cleaners a substantial amount of time to get to the room, probably either due to the workload or poor communication from the front desk. This is not good enough, the room shouldn't have been in that state to begin with and it should have been rectified straight away. The icing on the cake of this stay was that I was charged $40 on top of my room for parking, which was an unexpected cost that i felt I didn't have a choice to pay because my mother is not very mobile and can't walk very far. The staff at the front desk cannot seem to make up their minds on whether gold or platinum members get charged this fee, so even though I went three stays without paying this fee, I got charged it this time anyway, this is not consistent and quite appauling to put your customers on the spot like that. This fee is ridiculous in the first place as I've been staying at the Mercure long before they started charging for parking. If you must have this fee, include it within the price of the room! It feels like a huge scam considering the alternative is hauling luggage around two massive buildings to the room, especially considering my mother's condition. I would appreciate a response to this review that is not generated by ChatGPT, and I would also like a refund for one or both of the nights or some sort of compensation for the trouble we endured during our stay. Thank you for considering the above.

Well located, Good stay. Relaxing surroundings.

As above. There is building works going on behind the area we stayed which was a bit unsightly but hopefully will be completed soon.

We stayed at the Mecure for our daughter’s graduation held there. We live half an hour away so to save getting home so late for work and school the next day. However the people next door (Aboriginals who don’t sleep) kept slamming their door, kids opening it and yelling out and slamming again at 2am, 3am etc so we got no sleep anyway. The inconvenience of having to park so far away is madness. We spent every last dollar to stay there and couldn’t believe you want to charge to be able to park near your room. So we had to trapes back and forth to the car in the steaming heat, doing multiple trips for our stuff for the graduation. That was a massive put off and we won’t be staying there again because of that.

Nice clean functional room

Booked in on transit to Katherine. Had a pleasant night and great breakfast before heading to the airport for my flight. Very easy.
