I woke up at approximately 3:30 a.m. in an extremely hot room and tried to open the window for fresh air, but the noise from the city street-cleaning engines was overwhelmingly loud and made it impossible to rest. Although other rooms were available, I was not provided with a fan or offered a room change because they were not in the same category as my current room. I waited approximately five hours before the front desk offered to check my room temperature, but no meaningful solution was provided. I was simply told to remain in the room until a same-category room became available. What was most disappointing was the lack of empathy or apology. The front desk repeatedly emphasized that available rooms were in a different category rather than making a genuine effort to resolve the problem. I felt dismissed, unsupported, and disrespected throughout the interaction. After almost seven hours, following an approximately 30-minute heated exchange with the employee, my room was finally changed and key handed to me like a 🏆. It should never have taken seven hours and a confrontation to address a basic guest comfort issue. This experience significantly affected my stay and fell far below the level of hospitality I expected. A fan, temporary room change, clearer communication, or simply some empathy and acknowledgment could have made a significant difference. Instead, what should have been a comfortable stay became an extremely frustrating and disappointing experience.

What a lovely hotel, with really friendly and helpful staff. The room was very clean and a perfect temperature and the breakfast was just what we needed. We only chose Angouleme because it was halfway between two places on a long journey, but we were very pleasantly surprised by how lovely the town was (with really good restaurants). I definitely want to go back again for longer!

Great location in the heart of the old quarter and a fabulous building with history. Reception are, lounge and bar very nice. Garden is terrific but seems wasted as there was never anyone using it. Parking good. On booking, the reservation said the room would be available from 1200, but we checked in at 1245 and the room was not ready till around 13:30 - don't offer a service then fail to provide. Room adequate, but could have done with moisturiser in the bathroom.

We frankly chose the Mercure in AngoulĂȘme because it had air conditioning, something that we knew would be needed in July. We were pleasantly surprised by everything about the hotel. It is close to the central district with most of AngoulĂȘme's restaurants, the central shopping hall, pharmacies, and the like, as well as well positioned for touring the city. The train station is about 800m away, but it is a bit of a climb over pebbled sidewalks, so those with wheeled luggage should think twice about walking it. The hotel itself has a new/old vibe. The building is clearly older and fits well within the ancient city. It has clearly been recently renovated (hence the AC) and has clean and comfortable rooms that reflect the renovation. The staff was friendly, efficient, and spoke enough English to help when needed. We were heavy Uber users during our stay, and while the drivers had to navigate occasional street closures, they all knew where it was and how to get in and out efficiently. Overall, clean, comfortable, and central. I pleasant stay that I will remember fondly.

The staff at check were very friendly and welcoming. The parking underground was well worth the 12euro. Lovely gardens and outdoor terrace with excellent location close to all the little cafes and town hall. No shampoo or conditioner filled in the shower/bath containers. Duck burger and salad were great on terrace. overall I would recommend

I had an excellent stay. The hotel is historic on the outside, but modern and efficient inside. The staff were very welcoming and the service was excellent. Even with temperatures of 41 degrees outside, my room was wonderfully cool with efficient air conditioning.

Short transit stay. Ideal for the purpose. Close to centre restaurants etc. car parking at reasonable rates. Breakfast a bit pricey but cafes around as alternative

The establishment lack adequate air conditioning during the hottest time in Europe. I called a head to ensure their AC worked however upon arrival it was less than adequate. The thermostat says 20 degrees Celsius however it felt much warmer. The thermostat would reset the next day and I would have to call to have them manually drop it again. After the 3rd day they told me no.
