Travelling with my 18 year old son and after spending a Friday evening in Marseille to watch football, we were looking for somewhere to spend a few days to take in culture but also have the ability to chill out. We chose this Novotel as it looked within walking distance of the centre of Aix en Provence but that offered additional outdoor space that you don't often get in a city centre. In that sense this was ideal for us. It was about a 30 minute walk to the city centre, but also about a 30 minute walk to tourist attractions such as Cezanne's home. However for some people this may not be an ideal location as the walk to town is mostly uphill and the paths aren't the widest. I think most guests used the large car park to travel around. In terms of what attracted us when looking for a hotel in Aix was the pool. It is a good size but not really large enough for swimming, especially as it rapidly goes from 2m in the deep end to probably 0.5m in the shallow. That said it's great for families with younger children and for older people like me it is a refreshing plunge. There are definitely enough sunbeds around the pool and the few times we used it we didn't struggle to find a couple next to one another. We only had breakfast on one morning but it was plentiful, tasty and regularly restocked. A nice touch is the orange squeeze to make fresh juice. The room we chose had a nice sized bed and a double sofa bed. As there were just me and my son in the room he was able to spread out on the sofa bed and myself on the (what felt like) queen sized double. My son told me that the sofa bed was very comfortable and I can confirm the same for the main bed. There was an ok-sized fridge as well as a good-sized safe. Definitely large enough for my camera, a couple of lenses and a laptop. Bathroom was roomy and the shower had good water pressure and came to temperature quickly. This room could easily fit a family of 4 but my only concern is that it lacks storage space. But if you're happy living out of a suitcase it's ideal. There is a hanging rack for clothes. Overall really happy.

I was very disappointed with my stay: the room’s a/c was completely ineffective when it was needed most, the shower’s hot water was tepid and the restaurant’s food was, at best, very average.
