Excellent stay but I was disappointed to have to leave because of the renovations.

Stayed 3 nights at the Grand Hotel. Location was really good and walkable. The front desk staff were amazing. Rooms were ok they need an update. We learned the hotel is currently undergoing renovations so that will be good. We wish we would have known about the renovations prior to booking though. We didn’t know until we saw in the elevator “no water the next day for 2 hours” which ended up being closer to 5 hours. Then the construction starts daily at 8am. The fitness centre is good. Super small but we were able to get a few workouts in. Breakfast buffet we didn’t stay, the staff are not friendly at all. My French is not good at all so that did not help as they seemed very absent and annoyed by us. We did not use the pool. The lobby bar was busy but had a fun vibe each night; this hotel has lots of post cruise ship guests. All in all it was a nice stay but I think I was expecting a bit more, from our past stays with the Accor brand, it didn’t seem to be at a Fairmont/Sofitel standard. Would try this hotel again knowing the renovations are underway.

We really enjoyed our stay in Aix en Provence at the Grand Hotel Roi Rene. It is a busy hotel with many guests and groups. We had a lovely renovated and very quiet room overlooking the pool area. It was still quite warm for October so we lazed by the pool after exploring the old town. Our welcome drink as an Accor Gold member, glass of Rose from the local region which was fabulous and we enjoyed the breakfast buffet each morning.

The water was off for half a day due to plumbing repairs. The staff was helpful and the croissants amazing.
