To start with the hotel's location is fantastic as it is right in the middle of a lot of action and right at a train station so lots is convenient about this place. If English is your first language then you'll have no problem here. The people at the front desk and the people in the restaurant all speak very good English that I have found. The rooms are big for Japanese standards and the beds are very comfortable and not rock hard like a lot of Japanese beds can be. My room included breakfast and the hotel on the top floor which had beautiful views. I found the hotel had lots of choice for Western and Asian tastes however the Western stuff was just okay. Most especially the baked breads and croissant and that kind of stuff was not very good. It was all kind of factory made outside and not very fresh. The croissant especially I was very dry and I couldn't taste The buttery taste at all. I'm not trying to complain about it but for a European branded hotel, it should have been significantly better. I was here for three nights and basically the food was the same each day and I tried some of the baked items a few days and it was just a disappointment.

Great location, disappointing service

I stayed at this hotel recently as an Accor Platinum member with my family and was extremely disappointed with the experience. There were some positives and reasons we chose this hotel: the location is excellent for train and airport access, breakfast was very good, and the bar area had great views over Osaka. The gym was good, and while the pool was a rare feature, it was quite dated. The lounge was small and unremarkable. Unfortunately, our overall experience was overshadowed by serious issues with the room and how the situation was handled. We booked a suite six months in advance that was advertised as sleeping up to five people. Our booking was clearly for two adults and two older children, with ages entered at the time of booking. Based on the room description (king bed plus extra beds as needed), we reasonably expected appropriate bedding. This was not a surprise booking — we received the usual pre-arrival communications confirming our stay. On arrival, the suite had only one king bed and no practical way to add extra beds due to the layout. When we raised this with reception, it became clear the hotel had not planned for a family in this room type. We were told extra beds could not be added and that the room was typically used for a couple, with futons on the floor sometimes offered for small children. This was not suitable for our children (see photo) and did not match how the room was advertised. What followed was a prolonged and stressful series of discussions over several hours and multiple visits to reception. The only option offered for our children to have proper beds was to accept a downgrade to interconnecting rooms, which we ultimately did to salvage our stay. By the time we accessed the downgraded rooms, much of the evening was lost. This was particularly frustrating as we had deliberately chosen and paid more for a suite instead of interconnecting rooms. As a loyal Platinum member, the outcome was disappointing: a forced downgrade, paying more for a suite we could not use than the downgraded rooms would have cost if booked directly, no compensation offered at the time, and little acknowledgment at checkout. The welcome amenity placed in the original suite (in the photo for those interested) was also never transferred to the new rooms. I was told management was aware of the situation, yet no one contacted us during our stay or afterwards. After returning home, I followed up myself. The hotel offered a small points credit and just offered to refund the additional charges (approximately ¥9,500), which I appreciate. However, there was no explanation for why the issue was handled so poorly or why management made no effort to engage with us. Every other hotel on this trip — across multiple Accor and non-Accor brands — handled family suite bookings seamlessly and often exceeded expectations. Based on this experience, Swissotel Nankai Osaka is not a hotel I would recommend.
