Mercure Hotel Alba Iulia preserves Roman heritage, and staying here feels like living in an ancient museum rather than just a hotel. I would recommend this property to other Accor members and guests. The hotel is eco-friendly and uses wooden-based products. Perhaps they could consider replacing the plastic room key cards with wooden-based ones. Shoe polishers are available on every floor of the hotel. The accommodation was satisfactory; I did not find a single item unclean in the room. The toilet was well-maintained and spotless. The hotel provides complete assurance of cleanliness. The housekeeping staff do an excellent job and are very helpful in attending to guest requests. The hotel is located very close to the largest fortress in Romania, the Carolina Citadel. Alba Iulia itself is one of the most beautiful cities in Romania. Public transport is easily accessible within a 5-minute walk, and both the main bus station and railway station are about 10 minutes away. Nearby, you can also find a Penny grocery store. During my stay, the room exceeded my expectations. The bed, linens, and pillows were of high quality, making it easy to sleep comfortably. However, I was disappointed with the breakfast. Breakfast is not always served as a buffet; when there are fewer guests, you receive a single plate with limited items. The buffet breakfast, when available, is acceptable but repetitive, offering almost the same items every day. The bread selection is limited, and items such as meatballs, beans, waffles, and pancakes are missing. The juice was watery, and the salad options were restricted to cucumber, capsicum, and tomato pieces. Overall, the breakfast did not meet the standards expected of a four-star hotel. I also noticed young staff working in the kitchen; the hotel should consider employing a qualified chef to improve the quality of food served at breakfast and dinner. The hotel’s interior design is impressive, with excellent lighting throughout. There is also a children’s playground outside. However, the hotel should clearly mark designated smoking areas away from the playground. During my stay, I observed staff smoking near the children’s playground area, which was inappropriate. Finally, I encountered one male receptionist who seemed confused when I asked questions. He frequently had to consult others to confirm even simple matters. I hope the hotel will ensure that qualified reception staff are available to provide efficient service to guests.
