The room I booked was spacious and having all amenities. I booked the room for 13 nights. Due to the availability of the kitchen guests are allowed to cook and all cooking utensils were available, though the cook top needs some adjustment in it's power as utensils take lot of time to get the proper heat. Also, cleaning every 8 days policy for long stay is inconvenient as there is a high chance of room cleaning requirement possible every alternate days or twice a week. Breakfast was having the same menu every day with very limited space.

I tried several times at reception to explain what had happened in my room. The only person who showed any concern was the man on the night shift. My room was extremely dirty, with hairs everywhere, a contact lens left behind, and other obvious signs that it had not been properly cleaned. On top of that, my slippers were stolen. I only managed to speak to one of the managers when I was leaving. Unfortunately, the general manager was not present on any of the days of my stay. On that day, the cleaning staff was called, and their explanation changed several times. First, they said that no one had entered my room. Then they admitted they had been there on Monday, which I already knew, but claimed they had done nothing because the room was not supposed to be cleaned. Finally, in a third version, they said they had started cleaning and then realized they were not supposed to. In other words, I was given multiple contradictory explanations, none of them trustworthy. What makes this even worse is the attitude of the reception staff. Apart from the man on the night shift, nobody seemed to care. Several staff members were dismissive, and some were openly rude. One receptionist on Wednesday morning practically suggested that I was lying. The whole experience was deeply unpleasant and frankly unacceptable. The issue had already been entered into the system by the night receptionist on Monday, yet apparently nobody bothered to read it. I raised it again on Tuesday morning, and the receptionist told me she would look into it. I was not asking for anything unreasonable. I simply wanted the room to be cleaned, because its condition was unacceptable. Even the night receptionist on Monday noticed how dirty it was. What is especially absurd is that I was offered irrelevant compensations such as parking and breakfast. Breakfast was already included, and I did not even have a car. I made it very clear that I did not want perks or empty gestures. I wanted the room to be cleaned properly. That basic request was ignored, just as my complaint was ignored. I am the director of a course at ISCTE, a university in Portugal recognized internationally and ranked top 50 in the Financial Times. I was staying there because I had been invited by the director of the Breast Cancer Research Center to attend with my best students. I will absolutely share this experience, and I will recommend that Heidelberg University place this hotel on a blacklist for future visits. A dirty room, stolen slippers, contradictory explanations from staff, and a careless, rude, and unprofessional attitude toward a guest: that is what this hotel delivered. I do not remember the names of the receptionists, but the woman working on Tuesday morning and the one working on Wednesday morning should not be in guest-facing roles. Whatever their other skills may be, they were impolite, dismissive, and completely unsuited to dealing with the public. In the coming days, I will also share this experience with the travel agency involved in this booking. After that, I will publish this review publicly on Google Reviews, Booking, and TripAdvisor so that other guests are aware of the kind of treatment and conditions they may face at this hotel.
