While waiting for check in, the lady in front of me asked where she could find the ferry wharf, a route many arrivals take to get to Ettalong beach- the desk clerk said he really wasn't sure but she needed a car to get to there. I was able to tell her it was a 10 minute walk along a waterfront path! I then asked about boat hire- he had no idea. He offered no information about the hotel and I had to ask if I could take a leaflet on the hotel and area. Having been told that the hotel was not very full on this rainy Wednesday, I asked how much extra it was for a sea view, the clerk said there were no rooms available (surprising!) and said the only one was a 2 bed 'which cost alot more', as if I could not afford it! I pressed for the amount and was told it was $150 more so I didn't bother, but if there was honestly only one, he could easily sold it at a reduced rate say $50 more for one night, which I would happily have paid! After finding the boat shed & booking a kayak for the next morning, I asked for a later check out to 11am as it was a 20 min walk away (I am an elderly person) the clerk said my room was booked and I could only have until 10.30. I therefore cancelled my kayak and left the hotel very disappointed, based on the ignorant and surly service from this desk clerk who seemed more concerned with his appearance than his customers. Apart from that, the room was lovely, the housekeeping staff I met were very pleasant and I enjoyed my 1 night short stay. I do hope this man is given more training and learns a little more about the area in which he's working. Staff contribute a great deal to a guest's impression of a hotel!

Loved the location we could walk to everything we needed. They also left a lovely bottle of wine for our 40th Wedding anniversary. Only one let down was the view, they say hinterland views but our room looked over the carpark and the backs of old shops. We did ask if we could upgrade but nothing was offered. It was still a very good weekend.
