Classed as a five-star hotel which it probably technically qualifies on facilities, but certainly doesn't on quality of experience. Stayed here for two weeks in September for a work trip in Almaty. Rooms are ok, beds comfortable, but TV channel choice extremely limited and decor tired and in need of refurbishment. Room cleaning was fairly random in terms of towel, mat, robe replacement after use, and maids kept confiscating keycards from the power slot. Main lobby is beautiful and pleasant environment to relax and eat. However, out of the three restaurants, two are permanently closed and only available for private functions which means you are down to one limited menu option. On the occasions we tried to eat dinner in the hotel, staff seemed disinterested and did not speak any English, so gave up and went out. This seems to be an own goal for the hotel in not capitalising on their facilities. All expenses had to be paid along the way, nothing could be charged to your room. This even included paying for the room up front and being asked whether we wanted to pay extra to build up credit for any expenses. This makes the guests feel more like criminals rather than being special which is what you are looking for from this grade of hotel. Would not stay at this hotel again next time in Almaty.

I had mix of disappoint situations during my stay at the hotel. There are several examples. It's a mess at the breakfast, staff screaming to each other and swearing or when I pointed to salt shaker was broken the waiter told me that you right, did literaly nothing and she went away. I asked to fix the door to the balcony (it was blocked for some reasons or broken) no one came to me. One day no one came to my room to make up it, when I asked why the lady raised her voice accused me of the this situation. I was shocked a little because I hung up the sign "please make up my room" when I was leaving the room and I didn't expect that the staff can screaming to a guest at five star hotel.

The hotel is Grand. But the room was old and smelly. I don't want a smoking room but was given one.

This is not a 5 star hotel. The building is beautiful and the rooms are nice, but the service is that of a 3 star hotel and it’s definitely not worth the price. Our room lacked a robe on arrival (which we would have been charged for if we had not informed the front desk). The default is also that the refrigerator is locked, which is very strange for this level of hotel. The coffee in the room was instant and was not replaced either of the days we were there. Breakfast buffet was quite good with a lot of variety. I got a glass of completely flat Prosecco at the lobby bar and when I tried to explain that it was flat and ask for something else, the bartender showed me the date on the bottle (opened 4 days prior) and told me it was fine. I declined to drink it and was not offered the requested refund or a replacement drink. We also had to request airport transport twice. My husband requested it earlier in the day and when I checked in to confirm it (since it was for a very early flight),it had never been requested by the guest relations team. The location is great and the rooms are fine, but I would stay elsewhere when I return to Almaty. Not worth the money and they don’t seem to care about customer service.
