While there are the makings of an extraordinary start, it's was not without issues: Check-in process was slow and our room want ready despite our arrival around 5:30pm. We were provided 2 free drinks in the lounge as an apology, but what we really wanted was to be in our room after having completed a full day's drive. In room climate control was a problem: the room would not stay cool overnight. While the issue was resolved, it required multiple contacts and follow-ups with engineering. Housekeeping quality was inconsistent from day to day, and on 2 days required a call to get it done, despite having coordinated with concierge to get an early afternoon room cleaning (the concierge recommended we schedule a time frame). The sound system used by the musicians is atrocious. While the piped-in music works fine, the artist's sound system was booming and cacophonous, making the music difficult to enjoy and conversation nearly impractical. On the positive side, your staff is excellent: friendly, cheerful and helpful.

We booked online based on a photo of a beautiful view. We splurged and purchased the room very early to ensure we got a room with the view as described and in the picture. But when we arrived we were put in a room overlooking a grass roof and looking at people working at tables. I was crushed. When I called concierge we were advised that it was full and we couldn’t be moved. Champagne and chocolates were sent up for the inconvenience but for months I was looking forward to the room I booked. The day after they found us another room and comped our breakfast for the two days. I am appreciative of the help the second day but was still thoroughly disappointed this can happen. I thought if we paid a certain price and paid specific for a certain view at a certain price that’s what we would get. I don’t understand how what happened is in any way justifiable. We only had two nights and lost one to this. Given that, although they made it right the second night I’m not sure I would go back. On our way out the front desk lady told us it’s first come first serve so if you check in later (we checked in between 3-4) you risk not getting the view you requested. I can’t wrap my head around how that’s ok as I would not have paid what I paid for the room I was given yet I had no choice my card was charged two days before arriving and I was told it was the only room of that type remaining. It’s unfortunate as otherwise this hotel was beautiful and we really enjoyed our second night. We live in Victoria and found a few amazing restaurants nearby, it would be wonderful to return but I’m not sure I’d want to go through that again.

Check in was tough as Jessie seemed to be learning on the job. He offered us as "Diamond" members an upgrade, but left to consult his superiors and came back and offered it for $700 extra for one night. It is the first time in over 100 stays in the last two years we have been asked to pay for an upgrade. We declined.

Loved the location, the amenities, the service expected but the lack of stuffiness. Everyone was charming, helpful and friendly. The Raw Bar was a great funky casual place to eat with amazing delicious food and really be great advice about local wines. Yummy Brekky options at the Botanist with importantly good espresso. The only regret, wish we had more time but will return.

We had a gift certificate and wanted to upgrade our room to a room with a jetted tub we were originally booked for August 14th but we had to change our dates as unforseen circumstances came up. When we rebooked we were told and had email confirmation that we would get a Deluxe City View King with Jetted Tub for $100 upgrade. When we checked in we asked over and over if this room had a jetted tub and we were told yes each time. The woman checking us in upgraded us again for $50 to a room with a view of the harbour. We were in room 1409 and it did not have a jetted tub, Nick (think that is who my girlfriend spoke to) refunded the $50 upgrade fee but we still paid $100 upgrade fee for and upgrade we never received. When we asked if we could get a room with a jetted tub we were told no sorry we just gave the last room with a jetted tub to another guest.

Great from start to finish. Even when my room was delayed, the hotel comp'd my lower lounge beverage as a gesture of understanding and patronage and it ensures i will always come back.
