Very poor reception service

Although I arrived before check-in time, the reception staff (a bearded man in particular) made no attempt to expedite the readiness of my booked room. He frankly could not have cared less. This was in marked contrast to the high level of service I have encountered in New Zealand over 37 years. However, it was consistent with the numerous comments in reviews critical of the service at the Christchurch airport Novotel.

Loved my suite overlooking where the Hercules was parked - my husband was flying out on it to Antarctica. My only gripe was with the restaurant/bar - very slow service and the man who served me didn't seem to know what he was doing. I ordered chicken off the bar menu (which is what I received) but got charged for the chicken from the restaurant menu even though I told him several times it was the chicken from the bar menu. In the end I gave up and just paid for restaurant menu chicken because I was tired and he clearly had no idea what I was talking about.
