Think airline toilet! But it is CHEAP!

Cheapest hotel accommodation in Chch! But beware you get what you pay for. Booked a standard Inner Urban Queen room for 2 nights & after locating the hotel, the next question was where to stop & unload as there is no stopping area in front. It is possible to pull into the lane on left hand side which does lead to a public open carpark but its not exactly clear. Entering thru the front entrance leads directly into the restaurant & to the reception at rear. Two smallish lifts are quickly overwhelmed when a busload of tourist arrives - take the stairs! The room entry is essentially a twin key scenario where the entry door enters a small lobby giving access to 2 separate locked rooms. Inside is a Japanese hotel size room ie. barely enough room to swing a cat! There's a tiny desk which doubles as a drinks area for tea & coffee plus a stool (not a chair). The mini fridge has milk pods & nothing else. Immediately above is a open hook rail with some clothes hangers. Think compact on a even tinier scale. The bed is not a normal bed as its at least 30cm higher than normal & suspected the frame was built by builders with a mattress plonked on top. Just enough room to get past the bed to the other side & a tiny view of the street. The LCD TV provides standard Freeview channels however avoid the streaming channels which contains a lot of buffering. The bathroom can best be described as 'airline size'. Constructed offsite as pods and craned in as a complete unit, it features a curved glass wall & curved glass sliding door which is interesting design & saves a lot of space however internally its TIGHT-AS! Inside is a toilet pushed into the corner between the vanity basin that tapers into the corner (to give enough room for the toilet). The space between shower & vanity would be 60cm on average & 2 large adults would definitely not fit. Shower has a glass sliding door that needed maintenance to free up the operation & to get it to close. There no room service so need to hang up the towels to dry & reuse. Breakfast is standard fare but cheap by NZ hotel standards. Location is good and right on doorstep to CBD, Riverside Markets & 10 minutes to Little High foodcourt.

Quirky but adequate

Quirky but adequate accommodation in a central location. Describing as three star is pushing the envelope a little, more of a high end backpackers would be more accurate. Read reviews of tiny rooms, so booked a city view 5th floor king which featured reasonable views. Easy 24hr check in. Slightly random bathroom facilities, a very high-raised bed and limited storage. Good room service and popular restaurant, although we checked out a few different nearby cafes for dining instead. Daily happy hour at the bar and comfortable TV lounge to relax in.

I had only booked for one night, but my plans changed. The helpful staff rearranged other bookings allowing me to stay another night without having to find new accommodation. Very helpful,
