Good but aging hardware, disappointing hospitality. Underwhelming check in and check out experience. My platinum status wasn’t verbally recognised. I wasn’t told the activities at the resort, location of the breakfast restaurant, nor was I told the location of the executive lounge without asking. The room that we were originally assigned to had smell of cigarette smoke, which was very surprising given the resort is a 5 star property. There were no welcome snacks or fruit platter until I called. The presence of the Typ Greenleaf tour group also created less of a relax and welcoming atmosphere which to be honest I would have reconsidered my booking if I knew in advance.

I recently stayed at the Sofitel Sanya, hoping for the luxury experience the brand once promised. Unfortunately, this visit was a profound disappointment from start to finish. Loyalty Program? What Loyalty Program? As a loyal Accor member, I was shocked that the staff had absolutely no knowledge of the loyalty program. No recognition, no benefits, not even basic awareness—it felt like I was checking into a budget motel, not a five-star French-branded resort. Communication Nightmare Language barriers made every interaction a struggle. Requests were misunderstood or ignored, and basic information required repeated explanations. It’s exhausting when a hotel of this caliber cannot facilitate smooth guest-staff communication. Food: Oily, Heavy, and Unhygienic The culinary experience was dreadful. Every dish felt burdened—overly greasy, super oily, and lacking any finesse. The Thai dishes were particularly offensive: one arrived with a human black hair embedded in it. Absolutely unacceptable. I lost my appetite completely. Check-in Disaster The front desk team was arrogant and unwelcoming. Instead of a warm greeting, I received curt, dismissive attitudes. The check-in process was chaotic, slow, and frustrating—no one seemed to care. Missing the Old Days I’ve stayed here before, when European management ran the show. Back then, the food was delicious, service was polished, and staff understood hospitality. Those days are gone. The current management has clearly let standards collapse. Verdict Avoid until serious changes are made. Sofitel Sanya is riding on a faded reputation, offering overpriced mediocrity with a side of hygiene issues. I will not return.

Sofitel is my favourite brand and this was the worst sofitel I stayed. From check in, room, restaurants, lounge , everything was disappointed. I was come for my birthday and I finally found there was a cake in the fridge without mentioned…
