Awful staff , noisy, strange smell in bathroom

The bathroom was clean ( looked) but there was an awful smell on the 1st floor. Reception the man was most unhelpful , the key card he gave me didn’t work & seemed not keen to give info re the pool ssying to go there & find out. At the pool reception the young lady looked bored & not keen , fortunately the young man spoke & gave info. Can the hotel recruit better staff please!!! Reception was crowded & noisy. The handy location meant I had a lovely meal at the miller & carter. Room was ok, spacious, safe didn’t work & toilet stank.

Absolutely terrible stay. At check-in we were not greeted, just handed a key by a very unfriendly receptionist. The room was dirty with stained bedding, mold in the bathroom, and a broken wall. When my girlfriend got sick at night, the phone didn’t work, so I had to go to reception. Staff laughed at the situation and refused cleaning until the next day. The spa reeked of mold and was unusable. At checkout, no courtesy at all just “bye.” A disgrace.

If you need a twin room make sure you make this clear when booking

Booked to stay for one night for me and my daughter. We've stayed in this hotel many times, never had a problem with the booking. When we arrived around 13.45 yesterday, we were told that we could not have a twin room because I had nor stated that we wanted a twin. I explained that I'd booked online as I always do, booked the standard room which clearly says double OR twin no where does it state that I'd you want a twin you have to write in the notes. The receptionist even said maybe if we'd arrived earlier it was around 13.45 you can't check in until 14.00. She said they had a room whith beds which could be changed into a twin but had already been made into a double, how long would it take to change ? We cancelled our room and went to the hotel across the road where we got a twin room with no bother Seems poposturs they'd rather loose the money for a room then spend a few minutes changing the double into two singles

Shabby, poor service and awful attitude of some staff.

Just back from a two night stay 29th and 30th August 2025 to attend my son’s wedding with my husband. Absolutely appalling experience. This hotel caters for large corporate events which no doubt are being paid for on expenses as opposed to normal paying guests. (Some boxing event on whilst we were there). I’d advise Normal paying guests to avoid the place. Breakfast was average but that was only when you could find a table for normal guests as most of the tables set out with teams and reserved. We saw others trying to find somewhere to sit also. We were in room 103. Rooms are tired and shabby. Electrics ie lights sockets etc only partially work. poor connections. Had to speak to reception on each day to try and get lights working. Some did and some didn’t. Door cards failed twice had to get manager to use master key as new reprogrammed ones he did also didn’t work. We heard other guests complain about same issue, Shower light & bath light and tall standard light not working. (Yes it was plugged in and yes the card was correctly put in the power box near the door.Table lamp only worked if you giggled the wire). The bed was hard and uncomfortable. Mold in the bathroom. No spare pillows either. Safe for valuables was in a cupboard on the floor so had to crawl onto hands and knees to use which was a waste as it also wouldn’t work or set. (See picture) Broken door stop left in the middle of the floor. (Picture) Mini bar empty despite being advertised. Internet access in rooms none existent and no info as to how to access despite again being advertised. I couldn’t even get a mobile phone signal in our room. Glasses in bathroom tiny and only hold a mouthful of water. BUT WORST ALL, on the day of my son’s wedding.the maid knocked on the door early morning as we were getting dressed. We asked her to return as we were leaving the room to go out shortly. On return to our room late that night. The room hadn’t been touched. Dirty towels left , bed unmade. No toilet rolls, No replenishment of tea or coffee.. on top of that the bedside lights failed again. We complained and we were asked if we were asking to move rooms but due to it being midnight we agreed to be given fresh towels and toilet rolls. We invited the night manager to come into the room to see for himself. He did and was very understanding and said he was appalled. He got the lights working by giggling the power connection. He said he’d make a note and he advised we complain and told us it was completely unacceptable. So the next morning as we checked out we asked to speak to a manager. The person said she was the manager. She was unapologetic and blamed the housekeeping issues were to do with the work being subcontracted out to an outside company and that it was their policy to skip rooms if can’t get in on first attempt and that they only turn over rooms in list order and if you happen to be using the toilet or anything when she knocks you don’t get your room done because they don’t have to return. Apparently it’s there policy.also I was told as I booked through a third party. Ie trivago it wasn’t their responsibility for the hotel to deal with complaints. She was cold and hard faced. This hotel is advertised as luxury. I’ve stayed in much better budget hotels. Also, I’ll probably get the standard response to this review….. that they are sorry we are unhappy and my comments will be passed onto the management just like every other poor review on this site but it looks increasingly like no one it doing a jot about it. I’d strongly advise AVOID THIS RUBBISH HOTEL.
