I really appreciated the friendly welcome I received at reception. Unfortunately, when I got to my room, there was a problem with the toilet which required a change of room, but this was handled efficiently. There were a couple of small issues with the new room, which I did not report but which were a bit of a pain. Firstly, the temperature of the hot water in the bath was absolutely scalding and the temperature dial did not work. I ended up adding endless kettles full of cold water in order to use it. Secondly, the TV really was the most basic one imaginable in the twenty-first century - not serious but a bit disappointing. I very much enjoyed my breakfasts and again, the friendly welcome at 0630 :). Thank you.

We got married in Sheffied at the Town Hall on Wednesday the 25th March so I booked 6 rooms for x2 nights and a further room for x1 night. We started off well, but the checkin for the x1 night room didn't go well, my wedding guest explained the booking was in my name but a separate booking but instead of being given the key to his room he was checking into, he was given my room key where I was getting ready for my wedding. On this occaision I obviously knew this person but this is a security and safety risk if a key can be given to someone by mistake. The guest didnt realise he'd have to pay on arrival so advised reception he would come back to pay for the room, only reception then decided to ring me while I'm getting ready for my wedding to ask me to go down to reception to pay the bill! I called reception to ask if an ice bucket and champagne glasses could be brought up but was told it would be £4.50 extra charge. I understand there is a tray fee for room service but i booked your hotel for my wedding day, it was a small simple ask. We'd booked a suite for the additional space and it was nice and clean but tired and would hope it will be included in the refurb. It would have been nice to have been informed on the refurb downstairs as we had planned to bring our guests back to the hotel but there wouldn't have been space in the makeshift bar. Overall our stay was ok but really disappoited with the service and security breach - with a little bit more care it would have been perfect.

Our stay was disappointing on this occasion. We booked Mercure over the Novotel next door for its facilities but were then told the pool was out of action so did not come equipped to swim. When we arrived, however, we were told the pool had reopened the previous day, but we hadn't at any point been told that the bar was being refurbished. As a Gold Accor member and subscriber to Voyageur Plus I was also disappointed to have no recognition on this occasion of my status - usually there is some sort of welcome gift (cake, chocolates, or similar) in addition to the welcome drinks which I believe are also provided to Silver members, and also a room upgrade. The room we were in didn't even have any water or facility to fill a water bottle. The hotel is clearly in need of some refurbishment - the light outside the bathroom wasn't working in our room, the switch to the floor lamp was broken, and there was some black mould on the ceiling of the shower.

I have been staying at the Mercure Sheffield St Paul’s for many years now, coming back regularly since 2010, and it always feels like home when I arrive. I stayed in Room 433 this time which I really enjoyed, very comfortable and quiet as always. The staff are always friendly, welcoming and professional, which is one of the main reasons I keep coming back to this hotel. The service is consistently excellent and the standard has remained high over the years. I look forward to my next visit and will definitely be returning again soon. This has become my preferred hotel in Sheffield and I always recommend it to friends and colleagues.
